>> Hi, This is Kevin Massy from CNET Car Tech and today we're taking a first look at the Eclipse CD3100. This is a single-DIN size in car stereo and it has some very advanced and user friendly features. This system will play regular CDs and also mp3 and WMA compressed audio files on disc. I have an mp3 disc here. We'll just [unclear]it in. On this monochrome LCD display, will display ID3 tag information for the tracks on your mp3 disc. You'll get the first ten or so characters of each track name on the disc. I think that's probably the best way that Eclipse could have put search functionality into a system with such a basic screen. Other than its regular media playback capabilities this system has a very unique navigation function. It's called Area Shot and to be honest it's more trouble than it's worth. It's a nice toy but it takes a hell of a lot of setting up. Let me tell you how it works. You go to the Eclipse website, sign up, register your car stereo on the site then you plug in to a navteq map your current location and your destination. The website then generates a file, which you save to your desktop and then burn onto a CD-R like this. And then the system will read the navigation file and turn that into turn by turn directions for driving on the road. The stereo does not have built in GPS receiver it just relies on a list of turn by turn directions to get you from point A to point B. Frankly, I rather take a map on the road with me. If you're not planning to use it for navigation than we recommend the Eclipse CD3100 as a very user friendly in car stereo. It's on sale now for a price of around 250 dollars. I'm Kevin Massy and today we've had a first look at the Eclipse CD3100.
