Just plug it in to a computer's USB port and PlantSense sends its readings to an online database of plants helping you to figure out whether to move a plant somewhere else or to water it more or less. You can stick the PlantSense device in a plant pot for a report about a specific species or you can put it in a location that you want to green and get recommendations about plants ideal for that area. We like the cute design of this green thumb gadget. It even comes with different paddles in case you don't want green, you can choose blue or gray. The company thoughtfully ships a AAA battery and the packaging includes a compostable foam tray and a recyclable cardboard box. Experienced gardeners probably won't need PlantSense, but beginners or those who want the shortcut of a precise measurement may find it helpful. The readings can turn up surprises like the blast of sun that floods a dark room while you're away at work.
