Cocktail-making robots served up some tasty beverages in a very unique way Wednesday night at San Francisco's DNA Lounge as part of a lead-up to the RoboGames being held later this spring.
[ Music ] ^M00:00:03 >> Hey, viewer, you ever date a robot? >> Simone Dobolus: I'm Simone Dobolus [phonetic] and I'm the co-organizer of Rebel Games and tonight we're doing BarBot 2010 at the DNA Lounge. It is a robotic event featuring robots that have something to do with cocktail culture. >> This is CosmoBot version 2.0... is an inter-galactic spaceship and robot that helps space tourists get a proper cocktail. So basically you turn the dials and you push the big, red, shiny button, and then we launch. Right now, we can make three types of drinks: we can make a Cosmopolitan, we can make a Cape Cod or a Kamikaze. >> Simone Dobulus: So we have robots that make cocktails, robots that give you sass about cocktails, robots that play lounge music, robots that roll around, begging for change and pouring beer... all sorts of robots. >> Yeah, this instrument is a 1929 Degan [phonetic] vibraphone. I've recently created a set of solenoids in a midi-powered brain to read information from any kind of midi input device, and it knows a lot of tunes. >> It's a BarBot from the year 2000... ah, when did we we find it? Well, it doesn't matter. But it came here by time travel machine. We found it in Austria and repaired it and brought it to America now, and so it's one of the last Czech BarBots, and it's called, BarNote [phonetic], because it's coming from Austria, and it's a strong machine, so we had to call it, BarNote. All you gotta do is to arm wrestle and want to win. The machine would pour in a glass of whiskey and fling it over the bars, so you could have a shot of whiskey. >> This is our drink making unit. And it is making White Russians. It has three breast pumps that suck out liquid from these three carafes and then are caught in a ice trough which chill the liquids and they go from there into a funnel, into your glass, ideally. >> His name is Bartendro [phonetic]. He is a drink-mixing robot, and you fill it up with about a dozen different alcohols. And you press a button, a size, and it makes you a perfect cocktail every time. >> Haven't you had enough already?
