Disney and Comcast have come to an agreement where Disney will become full owner of Hulu and have complete control, essentially immediately.
Your favorite Comcast owned shows will still be on Hulu until late 2024, but by 2020, NBC will be able to pull some of their shows, and by 2022, they'll be able to cancel most of its agreements for Hulu.
Joan, how big is this?
Well one thing I wanna clarify is that they wont be able to pull anything like you said [UNKOWN] they won't be pulling anything from HULU what they will have is the ability to stuff that was exclusive for HULU thye'll be able to also stream it on their fourthcoming streaming service that they are lounching themselves.
So nothings leaving HULU that it already has See or any other properties Bravo Universal Studios.
None of that is leaving until for like three years.
But it's interesting in the sense that it's the first time in the entire history of Hulu.
Which has been around as one of the earliest streaming services on XETV streaming services the first time it's ever been owned by one company.
And so it'll be interesting when it's not being run by.
Three or more companies that are all competitors [LAUGH] with each other.
Do you think that this was an inevitability for Hulu, that it was owned by so many different companies that eventually one would just take it over completely?
It wasn't an inevitability for many many years.
For many years there are a couple of times where the for the most of Hulu's life, it was owned by NBC which is Comcast, Disney which is ABC, and the other one that I can't think of.
Why can't I think of it right now?
Fox, of course, Fox.
Yeah, so is this a good time to get a Hulu membership now, or do you think people should be holding out?
You know they've got Disney Plus coming out soon.
NBC's having their own streaming service.
I mean, does it make sense to even get Hulu now?
Yeah, I mean like it There's the possibility that when Disney launches Disney plus in November that there'll be the opportunity to have a bundle discount if you get both WHO and Disney plus they said they wanted to do it but up until this point Disney said we can't unilaterally make that decision because we're not the only owners of this.
Well now they can.
Now they are the only owners of the.
