Covert gun detection looks to prevent mass shootings
In a seemingly normal meeting room, technology is being developed to prevent another mass shooting.
Security company Patriot One Technologies, partnered with the West Gate Las Vegas Resort and Casino, to test a way to discretely detect concealed weapons.
So it's combining low-powered radar
With machine learning to do real-time determination of concealed threats, guns, knives, bombs.
Unlike imposing airport scanners or metal detectors, the technology can be hidden in a wall or ceiling, covertly scanning people as they walk by.
People are not needing to turn out their pockets, not needing to have to submit to search.
There's no privacy concerns.
No image of the individual is generated.
The system uses radar to help identify objects.
So the material composition and the shape of the weapon will give it a unique resonant signature.
Using artificial intelligence and high-speed processing, a computer compares the image to a vast database of weapon signatures in real time.
If the system designs the object has a high probability of being a weapon, [UNKNOWN] the security team.
The company says it is constantly updating and teaching the system.
Teaching what I have on like all different types of computers looks like, you know, processing limes here, you know, so we can make sure that we are always working to reduce false positive and increase accuracy.
Patriot One hopes to launch the system towards the end of the year and is currently testing in schools and businesses in five other locations around the world.
Westgate security said it would like use the technology in areas like the front desk, but emphasized it is not currently using the system on guests.
