-Hi, I'm Natali Morris for CNET.
Welcome to our coverage of the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show.
You are taking a first look at the Chumby 8.
This is not the 8th iteration of the Chumby.
This is an 8-inch Chumby.
You may remember the Chumby before.
It used to be the little kinda squeegee-widget-type thing.
Now, it looks more like a proper desktop-type application frame kind of computer.
You might think of this as competing with the Sony Dash.
A few updates to the Chumby, first of all, you can get about 1500 applications on it but you don't have to manage it on the web anymore.
You can manage it directly from the Chumby.
You can get all types of internet radio.
You can play your own music from your own iPod; not iPhone, unfortunately, because the licensing is different.
It's got SD card slot along the side.
So, if you wanna put music or photos directly onto the device locally, you can do that as well.
This here is an
aftermarket skin.
So, this is something you might buy to decorate your Chumby afterwards, say, if you change the decor of your living room.
It will come, though, in either black or red, and if you're okay with those colors, I suppose you don't need a skin, and it's got this kind of fun "home" button at the top.
So, as you're navigating your applications, if you wanna just go home, you can touch right here.
People who buy a Chumby are people who might want kind of a fancier either home alarm system or maybe something to sit in the kitchen where they can browse recipes while they're listening to music.
The Chumby now has a full web browser whereas before, you might have been surfing Facebook and saw a link, but if you clicked it, you couldn't get a full version of that link.
Now, the browser is more complete, so, as you are doing your applications, if you need to get to the web, you can and you'll have a full version of the web, which also makes for really great recipes.
So, again, this is the Chumby 8.
You've just taken a first look at it.
I'm Natali Morris with CNET and this is your coverage of CES 2011.
