Autocomplete takes a look at electric pickups

Cars
As humans it seems like we tend to do this thing where when someone comes out with a totally cool and innovative idea. 15 other people have to pile on in short succession in an attempt to ride that first thing's wave. It happened in the 1990s with disaster movies. Remember Volcano and Dante's Peak? Armageddon and deep impact. Well, it's happening now with electric trucks revealed launch the r1 t despite people's initial skepticism and then blew all their minds when it turned out to actually be really cool. Then we saw the likes of bohlander Tesla, General Motors and now Nikola trying to one up each other in the new cycle with their electric trucks. Having choice isn't a bad thing, but it can lead to a sense of overstimulation for the public which Where I think we're at now, but it's likely that at least some if not most of these electric pickups are actually going to come to market. So they're worth talking about, which is what we're going to do on this episode of autocomplete. The newest entrant to the EV truck party is Nicola. Now, despite having a super derivative name and a tendency to make claims about its products that have the distinctive with a vaporware about them, the Badger electric truck seems like it could be pretty interesting. Of all the electric trucks that have been talked about and teased The Nikola Badger is the only one that plans of leveraging hydrogen fuel cell technology in an addition to a more traditional battery electric drive train. The benefit to this would be a range in excess of 600 miles, if you wanna believe the company's marketing materials. Like seemingly every other EV truck, the Badger is claiming a peak power output of nearly 1,000 horsepower and a torque figure in that same neighborhood. Cheers to Nikola though for not trying to generate unnecessary hype for the Badger through the use of axle torque figures. Well, it's not technically BS. It always feels a little disingenuous, and we kind of hate when manufacturers do that. The massive stainless steel elephant in the room when talking about electric trucks is of course, Tesla's weird and wildly post apocalyptic looking Cybertruck Ilan bleem Gibson Nightmare on wheels also makes giant claims because well you know Tesla so of course it does. Though given Tesla's track record of actually producing cars that people can buy, we're kind of less skeptical of it than we are if the Badger if by some miracle you're not familiar with the cyber truck and it's listed bonafides will offer you a brief refresher It's made of stainless steel, like a DeLorean. And it has totally not steel ball or friends fun whole thousand proof glass. It can hold an electric ATV in it's back which has a volt and it'll be offered with up to three electric motors. Despite its polarizing appearance, we expect the cyber truck to be a big hit of consumers and environmentally conscious mall crawlers. Wait, those exists right? And Tesla's proposed pricing if adhered to remember the model three means. Means that we'll probably be seeing plenty of them on our roads in coming years. Whether that's good or bad. Yeah, we'll leave that to you. The electric truck that seems to kick all this insanity off, or at least the one that seemed to light a fire under everyone else's **** is the reveal. r1 T. Unlike the cyber truck, the r1 T is a fairly familiar looking truck and unlike the Nicola Badgett we've seen it in person and not just in renderings. The R1 Tpex a ton of cool design features into it's more or less standard truck shape. Including a sweet pasture tunnel that runs laterally between the bed and cab. This can be outfitted with stuff like a sliding camp kitchen, or it can be used to stow snow boards, skis, surfboards, you know all that x game stuff. Caribbeans been around for a while now but it hasn't released a production vehicle yet. So that is something to be aware of. Our warranty will be offered with several powertrain options and up to 400 miles of electric range. Hey, it's not just the smaller, more boutique manufacturers that are trying to get into all this electric truck hype. Even legacy companies like General Motors and Ford are throwing their gigantic, very well funded corporate hats into the ring. General Motors did the unthinkable with its offering by reviving the Hummer brand as a sub brand of GMC Now, many of us are old enough to remember just how laughable Hummer was during its short life, thanks to its ridiclously junky styling and its egregiously bad fuel econome. So, GM's decision to bring it back as an electric only model feels like a real power move here. Ford's answer is somewhat predictably to electrify the ever popular incompetent F150. Why reinvent the wheel if you don't have to right. So it did that and then in a very American grappling festivus sort of way showed it off by performing pointless feats of strength. Specifically, it used the electrified f150 to pull a train, give me a call on the train pulls back. Of course, all these trucks make for some super juicy marketing hype, but it remains to be seen if they can be produced and sold to the kinds of prices that will be attractive to buyers and more to the point Whether truck buyers, a notoriously progressive and quick to change lot. Wait, no, no, that's not right. We'll be willing to go electric at all. So, what do you, the YouTube commentary think? Would you consider an electric truck if you needed a work vehicle and it was priced competitively? Would you replace your gasoline or diesel powered vehicle with an EV if it promised decent range and solid towing abilities? Or is the question of being able to charge in semi remote areas just a bridge too far for you? Let us know. And while you're there, let us know what other topics you'd like to see us cover here. And of course, we'd be just as pleased as punch if you smash that like button and join our notification squad. Is that right guys? Are we doing this right? Anyway, once again I have been Kyle Hayek. You've been extremely patient. And this has been ROAD SHOW'S AUTO COMPLETE. Thanks for watching.
