Amazon's Halo Rise Is a Bedside Smart Light That Tracks Your Sleep
Speaker 1: We believe one of the biggest opportunities for ambient intelligence is in health and wellness, to help people live better for longer. And we all know sleep is core to good health, impacting nearly every aspect of physical and mental wellbeing. When we started thinking about how we could help in this area, we didn't need to look far for inspiration. Every month, millions of customers do things like say goodnight to Alexa, listen to soothing sounds to help them sleep or use routines [00:00:30] to wake them up. When we see this kind of momentum, we know we're onto something and we double down. Now, prioritizing sleep isn't just about getting more sleep. It's about finding the right balance between great sleep and the habits and activities you do during the day. We call this sleep life harmony, and we strive to invent devices and services that remove the obstacles that disrupt this balance.
Speaker 1: Introducing Halo Rise. A device designed to change the way you sleep. [00:01:00] Halo Rise is a first of its kind Bedside sleep tracker, wake up light and smart alarm. It brings all of these features together into one powerful purpose-built tool that works silently and intelligently in the background to help customers understand and improve their sleep. We know a lot of our customers want better sleep, but they don't wanna add battery anxiety to the list of things they have to think about, and they don't wanna worry about snagging a device on their pillow. That's [00:01:30] why with Halo Rise, there are no apps to activate, nothing to wear on your wrist, no batteries to worry about. Just get into bed and you're good to go. So how does it work? It doesn't have any cameras or microphones. It uses no contact low energy center technology and advanced machine learning to sense movement and respiratory patterns.
Speaker 1: This allows it to accurately determine your sleep stages throughout the night. And the sleep algorithm we developed was [00:02:00] trained and validated against overnight polysomnography. The clinical gold standard for sleep analysis. Rise uses sleep algorithms that are trained to track the breathing patterns of just the person closest to the device. So if there's another person in bed with you or even a pet, our algorithm is designed to detect that and only include your sleep data in your sleep summary. We also know there are a lot of factors that go into how well you sleep. Is there too much light? [00:02:30] Is the room too hot? And that's why we added built in environmental sensors that measure your room's temperature, humidity, and light. And as part of your daily sleep summary, we provide science backed insights that enable you to optimize your environment for great sleep. This gives you knowledge you can translate directly into results in the morning.
Speaker 1: The optional wake up light simulates the colors and gradual brightening of sunrise, creating a natural and gentle wake experience while [00:03:00] the Smart Alarm monitors your sleep stages and wakes you at an ideal time for getting up, helping you start the day feeling rested and alert. Halo Rise also works with Alexa making your Amazon Smart Home experience even better. For instance, you can enable your compatible Alexa device to wake you up to your favorite song based on input from the Rise. Smart Alarm Rise also works with personalized sleep routines. For example, just get to bed and Alexa will [00:03:30] automatically dim the lights in the bedroom. Turn off the TV and start a relaxing meditation. And you can pull up your sleep report on Echo Show by just asking Alexa. Like all Halo products, Halo Rise features multiple layers of privacy and security to keep data safe and in customers control. You can turn off the center that track sleep at any time. All Halo Health data is encrypted in transit and at rest in the cloud, and you can easily manage and download your health data, delete it, or [00:04:00] limit access to it if you share an Amazon account with household members. Let's take a closer look.
Speaker 2: The key inspiration for Halo Rise was how can we help customers sleep better, provide more insights around how they're sleeping today, and then give them guidance for the future.
Speaker 3: One of the things Halo Rise does in order to track your sleep is it does it through your respiration. That's a very profoundly different way to do it because we can do it in a contactless way.
Speaker 4: You don't have to think about it. You don't have to put something [00:04:30] on your wrist before you're tired and go to bed at night. It will monitor your sleep.
Speaker 5: It's not just the amount of hours that you sleep. That is how deep are you sleeping, what your RM numbers are, and there's so much more that we are just scratching the surface
Speaker 2: Of. There's scientific proof on how light really reinforces your circadian rhythm and helps you wake up feeling refreshed. The Smart Alarm focuses on looking at sleep stages and waking you up [00:05:00] in the lightest stage of your sleep so that you feel most rested that
Speaker 4: Morning. Now we can give individuals insights as to why they may not be having a good night's rest so that they can empower themselves.
Speaker 6: I was excited to work with the teams, really to understand the current state of the science in that area and to really plan intentionally to push that science forward.
Speaker 3: There are three really big parts from a science perspective of what we do at Halo Rise. The first is Halo Rise is really designed to only track [00:05:30] when you're trying to fall asleep. The second big thing is Halo Rise is designed to only track the primary user closest to it. And then the last bit is using machine learning to track your receive stages. The way we build these machine learning algorithms is we use a large clinical data set looking for patterns in the breathing and how that matches up to safe stages.
Speaker 4: So when I saw the nature of the insights using a contactless device, well that's the holy grail of innovation. So this is a new age [00:06:00] in sleep health and making sure that we can get people better sleep. The potential to impact people's lives is without bounds.
Speaker 2: It is certainly day one with Halo rise and we can't wait to see customers reactions to this product.
Speaker 1: Halo rises 1 39 99 and will be available later this year. It comes with six months of Halo membership for access [00:06:30] to even more resources aimed at helping customers move, eat, and feel better.
