It's kind of common at Amazon that, when we create these new APIs, whether at AWS or for sellers, that we dog food our own APIs.
It allows us to harden them, make sur they work well, and this API and board were no different.
We sort of got to work At an alpha version of the product with the team over our AmazonBasics teams over there and they got to thinking well what do we do.
And they came up with a great product to show reference design of this which is the AmazonBasics microwave.
Yeah it's a microwave.
[LAUGH] You've got to giggle a little bit.
Come on.
[LAUGH] But, it is actually pretty fun.
I'll have the team come out and bring it up here and we'll show it to you but it's not just the standard microwave.
It has deeply integrated Alexa into it.
And it turns out that a microwave is a very litmus test for the Alexa connect kit because, They run at 2.4 gigahertz.
And if you've ever had something nearby your microwave, you've noticed your coverage on wi-fi, if you're especially in that spectrum, has gotten worse.
So we had to make the wi-fi work inside of that, and that was a very hardening test.
But it also, as you start playing with this, it turns out That the user interface for a microwave it's still stuck in the late 70s.
Hasn't moved around a lot and if you've ever tried to defrost peas or something like that.
It's a number of clicks on the interface.
This microwave doesn't have a microarray.
It uses an Alexa that's nearby.
An echo that's nearby.
The team didn't stop there.
They also integrated Dash Replenishment Service into the microwave for what is the killer application for all microwaves, which is popcorn.
So if you run low on popcorn, and you sign up for Dash Replenishment Service, we will replenish your popcorn.
Your bowl will always run over, it'll be great.
So let me go ahead, and as they set this up, and give you an example of what this looks like here.
[BLANK_AUDIO]
Take that off.
It's super simple.
I have a demo potato.
First, for that, too, by the way.
Put it in There's a button on the microwave that allows me to trigger.
One potato.>>Sorry.
I don't see that IFT trigger.>>Oh.
Try it again.
One potato.
[BLANK_AUDIO]
There it goes.>>Starting potato.
Six minutes, 34 seconds.
I wish it was more complicated.
Alexa, add thirty seconds to the microwave.
Just added thirty seconds.
Thirty seconds added.
Six minutes, fifty-two seconds left.
Alexa, stop the microwave.
It's a great demonstration.
We think it'll lead the way for a lot of people.
We're excited about bringing this to customers.
And we're going to be putting this on sale as well.
It's only $59.99.
It's the most popular format of microwave that amazon sells today.
So we know customers love to put these in their kitchen.
And it'll be shopping later this year.
