6 Simple Side Hustles That Can Earn $500 Per Month
Speaker 1: If you're looking for tips on how to get rich overnight, I'm sorry. I have nothing for you, but if you are seeking some real ways to earn an extra $500 in a single month, and for many more months after that, I've got six tried and true ideas to share.
Speaker 1: One of my favorite sayings is that the best way to get to your destination is slowly and not just because I'm a really bad runner. It's because this could not be more true [00:00:30] when it comes to building wealth. I know it will be more exciting for me to sit here and tell you how to earn over $20,000 in a week, which PS is what some other videos on YouTube are telling us. I'm not saying it's not possible, but it's just not how most people grow their wealth. Realistically speaking, instead, the secret to getting rich come closer is kind of boring, but it is true that a deliberate and thoughtful way to earn, save and invest over time is [00:01:00] how most people arrive at financial independence. All right. So in this video, we're gonna focus exclusively on making more money in a way that is relatively simple and manageable.
Speaker 1: Specifically, we're gonna explore ways to bring home an extra $500 a month because for many people, this is not only doable. It can be life changing. A recent study in California found that when residents there were given an additional $500 a month for 18 months straight, it was [00:01:30] in a word transformative recipients said that the extra money helped to alleviate stress and worries. They even slept better and they were less depressed. Now question for you, how might an extra $500 a month improve your life in your future? Just spitballing here, but maybe it could help to pay off credit card debt a little bit faster, build up a cash reserve for emergencies. Maybe you could move into a bigger home, afford a new car payment pay for childcare support. An aging parent become [00:02:00] more charitable max out an IRA in a year, pay to outsource task like cleaning and repairs around the house and earn back your time.
Speaker 1: So many more benefits. It's important to have a goal before we consider any side gig or extra job that we have a clear mission in mind to keep us motivated. So how are you going to assign these dollars? Now you ask me my very first side hustle after grad school was babysitting and all that extra cash went into what I called my slush fund. This was for guilt [00:02:30] free spending on restaurants, Broadway shows, concerts and other fun experiences. While living in the big apple, my regular salary barely helped me to afford just my needs. So making an extra few hundred dollars a month, watching some kids, which was something I was already good at doing, I was experienced. I was a big sister. I babysat all through high school. This not just allowed me to get through life, but the extra money actually helped me to enjoy life.
Speaker 1: Now I know what you're [00:03:00] wondering Farish. What are the ways, tell us the ways where we can earn more money already. Now I promise to give you some concrete examples in a moment promise, but before you settle on a job also important to answer these two other questions. What am I good at doing? And when do I actually have free time? You have to sleep. Okay. Your skills and availability are essential to consider because we wanna be sure that this is extra revenue. That is something that you can do well, and it, it's not gonna disrupt your other work. That's actually [00:03:30] very important to you. It's bringing home the bacon, be sure that this is something that you can do with relative ease. There's no giant learning curve. You wanna set yourself up for success. So drum roll with that in mind, here are six ideas.
Speaker 1: Now, first, if you did well in school and you have say five hours a week, even spare consider becoming a subject tutor. This is a job that you can do either on site, in someone's home or school or from home base. Now, if you're already a teacher or you work in academia, [00:04:00] finding clients probably won't take too much effort. You could probably just send out an email to existing students and your community to let them know that you are up for higher for others that may need better access to clients. There's go peer.org, a platform for those in college who wanna tutor virtually from kindergarten, all the way up to 12th grade, the company says their tutors can earn a fixed rate of $20 per hour. At tutor, me tutors on the platform earns $16 an hour. [00:04:30] According to the website, there's also super prof that helps tutors secure gigs virtually or in person.
Speaker 1: Now there, the site says you can set your own rates and fees may apply. Now, if you're one of your top skills is writing, then you could consider a side gig writing copy for websites, presentations, and maybe even social media copy for very busy entrepreneurs and influencers. Now, in my experience, when I've hired copywriters for tasks like writing a few paragraphs, maybe summarizing one of my podcasts, I have paid anywhere from one to [00:05:00] $200 per assignment, do that a few times a week. And you're in the money. Check out sites like Upwork and indeed for job postings and on writers.com. You can actually get some training and start making up to $20 per hour per project. Next, if you're more of a numbers person you're organized and you have experience using bookkeeping software like QuickBooks, consider a job, doing some basic income and expenses tracking for someone who's self-employed or an entrepreneur.
Speaker 1: [00:05:30] This can be something you do on a monthly basis or for a special project. And according to freelance job site, upwork.com bookkeepers there have earned anywhere from 11 to $25 per hour, depending on their experience level, you can expect to make more for higher level projects that require some accounting skills. Now, if you're a helper and you like to talk and you have unlimited cell phone minutes, maybe a landline, I have another job for you. And it is called a customer service representative or [00:06:00] working for a call center. You'll of course wanna get some training to learn about the company's policies, products, and services, but you can earn anywhere between 15 and $19 an hour. According to salary.com, most companies do want either full or part-time, which is about 20 hours per week. So this is a little bit more time consuming than some of these other jobs.
Speaker 1: Check out listings on job search flights like ZipRecruiter, indeed, and flex jobs. Number five on the list is for all you pet lovers out there, a [00:06:30] job that is not only fun, but it pays pretty well too. rover.com helps connect pet owners and pet sitters within neighborhoods for a fee sitters charge anywhere from 40 to $80 per night. And you can offer to host the pet either in your home or at the pet's house. You can also offer to dog walk and mini dog walkers charge 20 to $25 per 30 minute walk. So to earn $500 in a month, you could walk one dog a day and start cashing in not [00:07:00] a bad way to get those steps in either. And finally, number six, babysitting and part-time childcare continues to be a very popular and in demand way to make money day and night. As a parent, I can tell you, I have many jobs for you.
Speaker 1: You can start by putting out the word in your neighborhood on parent or local pages on Facebook and other social sites. You can also list your services on community boards at your towns, why public library and other area gathering spots, but for a faster start, you might wanna list your services on sites like sitter city, [00:07:30] urban sitter, and care.com. There you can share your profile, your childcare, experience, your schedule and rates and connect with households in your area. You could start babysitting this weekend. You'll likely to go through a background check first and families do like to leave reviews for their sitters, which ultimately if you're good can help you earn more clients over time. Now, what does it pay? Babysitters on average can expect to earn 18 bucks for one child and up to $21 for two [00:08:00] kids per hour. That's according to a recent survey by the website, urban sitter, but let's say you score a job paying $15 an hour to reach $500 a month.
Speaker 1: You'll need to put in a little over 30 hours a month or eight hours per week. Guess what the top pay goes to sitters in San Francisco, where sitters made an average $21 for one child and 24 per hour for caring for two kids on urban sitter. The site boast that top sitters aren't up to a [00:08:30] thousand dollars a week. Now they're probably working many more hours than just a few nights per week, but babysitting, I can say firsthand has great potential for more videos like these.
