5 ways to make your home smell like Christmas
One of the best ways to enhance all of your Christmas decor is with a scent.
One of the best ways to do that is with a candle but candles are expensive and in some cases dangerous.
So here are five ways to make your house smell like Christmas or the Holidays without burning candles.
An age old way to bring the aromatics of the holidays into your house is to make a simmer pot There are a bunch of different ways to do this but a classic recipe is to use a quartered apple, a whole orange pill, 15 osole cloths, and two cinnamon sticks add to a pot with some water and seamer on low for as long as you want, don't just let the water run out so keep topping it up with water or make sure to turn the burner off before the water is totally evaporated.
If you happen to be a fan of incense you can typically find cinnamon incense in both sticks and cones pretty easily.
Light the cone or stick incense and let it fill your house with the traditional christmas spicy scent.
You can also make your own holiday incense by mixing different essential oils in a diffuser.
Some holiday oils you can experiment with are pine, cinnamon, peppermint [UNKNOWN] clove, orange Ginger, seeder wood and nutmeg.
Fill the tank inside the diffuser with water.
Add 15 or so drops of a different mixture of essential oils and turn the diffuser on.
This will fill your house with the scent of christmas for hours on in.
A wax warmer is like the perfect middle ground between an essential oil diffuser and a candle.
It gives you the strong aromatics of the candle Without the open flame.
And the wax cubes can last for hours on end and sometimes even for days of use.
And the clean up isn't so bad either.
And finally, you can make what is called a pomander.
All you need is a thick skinned orange, some cloves and something like a toothpick or a push pin to poke holes in the skin.
You can poke holes in straight lines, make fancy designs or you can cover the entire orange in cloves.
Once you poke holes and insert the cloves into the skin of the orange it will begin to dry out.
And as it does it will also emit a sweet spicy christmasy holiday style smell.
And it will also dry out entirely, which means you can store this and use it for years to come.
So long as it doesn't mold.
It will mold most likely if you live in a more humid area.
And if that's the case you may want to hang the pomander as that will encourage drying out a little more.
