2022 Ford Expedition: Some big changes for a big SUV

Speaker 1: The Ford expedition, full size SUV has been nicely updated for 2022, a couple new models. Join the lineup. You'll be able to get this vehicle with the automakers blue cruise handsfree driving aid, and then inside it's available with a big [inaudible] screen and I mean a big, okay, so this is the new expedition timber line. It's a special edition model named [00:00:30] after everyone's favorite NSYNC member, Jason Timberline. Anyway, this should be the most off-road capable expedition Ford has ever built and naturally a visual cues allude to that enhanced performance up front. You get a unique grill. Plus there are some red Ember accents just like on the smaller Explorer timber line. This vehicle also has a wider track, plus it rolls on stylish 18 inch wheels wrapped in all terrain tires, but some of the biggest changes here. Well, they aren't [00:01:00] that obvious the approach and departure angles have been improved.
Speaker 1: There's a juicy two speed transfer case. And then right up front here, skid plate is from a Raptor. The timber line also features Ford's clever trail turn assist, just like in the new Bronco. And basically what that does is lock and inside rear wheel to help this vehicle turn much tighter certain situation. Now, not that you will, but the expedition timber line here, shouldn't be able to take you pretty far off the beaten path. [00:01:30] Of course, if you're only making runs to Costco every other weekend, not bombing down old logging trails, consider the other new 4 20 22 expedition trim. The street focused stealth perform package will be available on limited and extended length, limited max models offering more athletic looks and a sport tune suspension. This SUV's grill mirror caps, roof rails, running boards, lift gate AATE and lamp housings are all blacked out [00:02:00] as are the 22 inch wheels.
Speaker 1: Even the Ford emblems have received the same treatment. I guess it's not the blue oval anymore. Providing a bit of color. The brake CERs are red, other models. Get it too. But expeditions fitted with the stealth performance package feature a continuously controlled DAMing suspension system that has been tuned to be a little bit firmer. Now, how, how sporty a big SUV like this can feel remains to be seen acceleration. Shouldn't be [00:02:30] an issue at least as with the outgoing expedition, a 3.5 liter twin turbocharged EcoBoost V6 lives underneath the hood though for 2022, it's gonna be offered in two different potencies. Lesser models will feature 375 horses and 470 pound feet of torque though. Stealth performance and Timberline models are going to have a high output version of this engine. That's good for 440 horsepower and 510 pounds of torque. That's more than you get in either a Jeep Wagoner [00:03:00] or a Chevy Tahoe, and more is always good in my book predictably, a 10 speed automatic transmission handles shifting duties.
Speaker 1: Now when fitted with the heavy duty towing package, the new expedition here can drag up to 9,300 pounds. It's a good bit more than the Chevy though. Less than the Jeep saving a few drops of fuel. This SUV features an active air dam. It deploys at speeds greater than 40 miles an hour, and supposedly improves aerodynamics by 4% at highway [00:03:30] speeds inside. We've got some important stuff to talk about. Much of the expeditions cabin is new though. Some parts do carry over, which isn't necess necessarily a bad thing, but with extra pressure from the Wagoner and Tahoe Ford had to really move the needle here. And it did a jumbo 12 inch landscape style screen is standard in the new expedition here running a sync four in infotainment system, but just like in the Mustang, Machi SUV and the upcoming lightning, F-150 all electric [00:04:00] pickup truck.
Speaker 1: You can also get a 15 and a half inch portrait style display in this vehicle. It's absolutely huge. As you can see, it runs a sync for a operating system, but no matter the infotainment array that you choose in this vehicle, both of them support wireless smartphone mirroring through both apple CarPlay and Android auto. Of course, if that's still not enough screen real estate, certain models can be had with a 12.4 inch digital instrument cluster that also features expedition specific graphics [00:04:30] making long highway drives just a little bit less stressful. Ford's clever blue cruise system will be coming to the top shelf platinum model. Now it should work on more than more 130,000 miles of highway in north America. Other fancy features include a 22 speaker bang and Oli and sound system, which should be available on king ranch, platinum stealth, and Timberline models. Beyond that the rear seat infotainment system also supports Amazon fire.

The updated 2022 Ford expedition looks better than ever. And the technology it offers is a huge leap forward. The refreshed expedition will be built in Louisville, Kentucky, and it's expected to go on sale in the first quarter of 2022.
