2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLS get the AMG treatment

Mercedes Benz GLE and GLS SUVs have been big sellers for the brand and now they are getting AMG five and I'm here at the Mercedes Benz stand at the LA Auto Show. So let's let's take a quick look around. So this is a 2021 model year here is the AMG GLE 63. It's a little bit smaller than the GLS but it has the same power train under the hood and that is what counts It is a foreign leader Twin Turbo V8 for 603 horsepower and 627 pound feet of talk. I mean stop, Mercedes just stop. But they haven't because it also has the IQ boost mild hybrid system which can add an extra 21 horsepower and an extra 184 pound feet of torque when you really put your foot into it. So I'm doing some math, that's 811 pound feet of torque out of what is essentially a grocery getter. I love it. Now that's made it to a nine speed automatic transmission and if it's like any of others, Mercedes Benz transmissions, it's going to shift pretty darn Quick now the suspension on this is going to have a kind of a self leveling air suspension with actuators on both the front and rear axle so it should remain really clean and neat while it's cornering and like I said the gap is a little bit smaller you can see here only two rows and since it is a little bit smaller it weighs a little bit less So that means that the zero to 60 time is 3.7 seconds. 3.7 seconds in an SUV like, this is a great time to be alive. Alright, let's come over here to the big guy, the GLS. So this GLS 63. Like I said, same powertrain, same transmission. But what I do like about this is you can get a lot of different options in this. So let's take a look at these wheels here. 23 inch wheels with a giant dinner plate in the middle. I think I want to take this home for Thanksgiving and like eat my turkey off of it. It's an interesting choice. I'll just put it that way. Now what if you wanted to go off road in your belly or your jealous. Well you can actually do that because you can get a rear locking differential which I think is fantastic. Just great. You don't need a G-wagon, just get one of these. So as the GLS is a little bit bigger, you do get three rows in here. And the extra bit of weight makes the 0 to 60 time a little bit slower. You guys, 4.1 seconds 0 to 60. [LAUGH] [INAUDIBLE] are you having 11 pound feet of max torque, this is ridiculous. And since it is a Mercedes Benz and it's the S Class of SUVs, you get a lot of luxury features right? There's massaging seats. There is a 12.3 inch reconfigurable gauge cluster 12.3 inch infotainment screen or reading Mercedes Benz user experience infotainment system Adaptive Cruise Control Lane Keeping Assist, I mean, all of those drivers that you would come to expect, all wrapped up in what I think is a quite nice looking package. Now we don't have any word on pricing or availability yet save that this is a 2021 model and I would expect it to cost probably more than I can afford. But it looks great. It's got a great engine and I can't wait to drive it
