2020 Subaru Outback is still spacious and practical in its new generation

The Subaru outback is a little bit of an oddball in the cross of an SUV space, but we've always liked the tall wagons ruggedness and utilitarian nature.
Now, at first glance this 2020 Outback may not look all that different, but there's quite a lot that has changed beneath the surface.
For starters, the 2020 Outback rides on Subaru's newest global platform.
And that's the same platform used in cars like the Ascent, Forester, Legacy, Impreza, and Crosstrek.
Subaru says that it's not only stiffer, but also safer than the last Outback's platform.
The Subaru Outback is a little bit of an oddball in the crossover SUV space.
But we've always liked the tall wagon for its rugged and utilitarian nature.
Now at first glance, this 2020 Subaru Outback may not look all that different, but there's quite a lot that's changed beneath the surface.
For starters, the new Outback rides on Subaru latest global platform, that's the same platform used for cars like the Forrester, Esend, the newest Legacy, the [UNKNOWN] and the Cross Trek.
Subaru says it's not only stiffer than before, but also safer than the older Outback platform.
As ever, you get standard all wheel drive this hill descent control plastic Fender planning and 8.7 inches of ground clearance for new charging down those snowy Monday roads to the cottage.
And it's still a pretty spacious crossover you get 75.7 cubic feet of cargo space inside.
Most models will use a 2.5 liter platform engine good for 182 horsepower and 33 miles per gallon on the highway.
The Outback also adds an XT model with the same 2.4 liter turbo engine that we've seen in cars like the Ascent and Legacy.
That's good for 260 horsepower, and I'll be honest, that's the one that I really want to drive.
The interior design isn't a revolution from the last Outback either, but you can see that it's been freshened up.
Subaru also says there's a lot more sound deadening than before and that the new Outback is three decibels quieter than its predecessor on the highway.
That's certainly a welcome change.
At the center of the dashboard is an 11.6 inch portrait-style touchscreen entertainment system, just like the one we saw in the new Subaru Legacy.
It supports Apple Carplay, Android Auto, and it has a built-in app with information on all of the U.S. National Parks.
Because it's a Subaru.
Other tech includes Subaru's EyeSight active safety suite, that includes things like pre-collision braking and active cruise control and lane centering steering.
You can also wave your hand over the Subaru latch to open the power lift gate, that'll come in handy if you've got your arms full with grocery bags.
The 2020 Subaru Outback goes on sale this fall, in the meantime let us know what you think about the new model in the comment section.
