2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI finally packs GTI power and performance
[MUSIC]
Regular viewers will know that we at Roadshow love the Volkswagen Golf GTI.
But we haven't always expressed quite as much enthusiasm for the Jetta GLI.
That's because for the past couple of years, the GLI has kind of played second fiddle with less horsepower and fewer features than the GTI.
But fortunately for 2019, that all changes.
The new Volkswagen jet of GLI now runs on the version of the same MQB module of Asiatic use from GTI, leaving you with all the same performance parts from it's big brother.
Under the hood the TA888 two-litre turbo engine now has 228 horse power and 258 pound free that work.
Those are increases of 18 horsepower, and a huge 41 pound feet versus the last GLI.
To harness all that power, a six speed manual transmission comes standard, and a seven speed dual clutch is optional.
The GLI gets the same breaks as the GLI too.
That means 13.4 inch front disks.
And it's got the same VAQ electronically controlled limited slip differential as the GTI as well.
On top of that, the GLI rides.
6 inches lower than the standard Jetta.
And it's got a multi-link suspension system, whereas this standard Jetta has the cheaper and simpler torsion beam arrangement.
Now I'm not a big hatchback fan, but I'm still pretty excited by the Jetta GLI because it's got all the same performance bits as is GTI big brother.
It should be a pretty fun to drive car when it debuts this spring.
