CNET Top 5
Worst DownloadsDon't waste your time or money. This is the worst software of fall 2010.
Im B.C. with a Top 5 that keeps em honest: Top 5 downloads for idiots: Applications youd only fall for if this whole computer thing is STILL real new to you. And even then, only if youre stupid. Hard to rank this list from CNET Download maven Seth Rosenblatt, so Ill just take em in order of my increasing disbelieving apoplexia. C/U OF THIS COPY FROM THE DESC. ABOVE #5: Make Up Instrument. Its a makeover app that costs $50 to do what a whole bunch of stuff web sites from Mary Kay to Marie Claire do for free. Of course, those sites probably cant make fairy-tales portrait, make your body slimer, remove tattoo. But they also dont conjure images of a whorehouse Manila. #4 is Baby Keyboard. This one asks you to spend $20 to turn your $1,000 computer into the world most expensive busy box while rending the air about home with the noise of repeated sound effects as your little one slaps away at the keyboard. Makes a pretty strong case for TV and a bowl of Skittles as a good babysitter. #3 is American Football Predictor. You can tell by the name this ones from some crafty Limey looking to pick some colonists pocket to the tune of $150 in exchange for football score predictions. Basically, its like one of those smug greaseballs with a 1 900 bettting line infomercials but without the silver tongued charm. And did I mention, $150? #2 is a galling bit of chicanery: Aloaha PDF saver. Lets you save PDF forms you fill out, which Acrobat Reader will not. But it does it for $64. Or, just download something like Nitro PDF Free version and do the same thing. But the #1 appalling download this time around is Date Doctor for Women. Oh God. Ladies, you install this one, input a disturbing amount of information, and then it coaches you with a battery of checklists of things you need to do to find Mr. Goodbar, cuz, you know thats how it works. It also offers chestnuts of inspiration like Get out as often as possible. Men often become interested in girls they have seen around town a few times. Uhhh, I think that could be phrased better. Now, for Downloads that are really good, go to the site that just proved it knows good ones from bad: Download.com. Thanks to their Seth Rosenblatt for putting on his waders and dredging these up. Im B.C., next time.
