Whole roasted crickets infest snack timeCrickets are a strong source of iron, calcium and protein, but can you get over the ick factor?
[MUSIC] Hey, what are you eating? Crickets. [SOUND] You've probably leaved most of your life under the assumption that eating bugs is bad, or at the very least gross. But these aren't your garden variety crickets. These guys were raised at a farm in Austin, Texas run by the Aspire Food Group. Aspire uses data, automation, and robotics to produce crickets that are sustainable to grow and safe to eat. The idea is that crickets have more protein, iron, and calcium than beef, and take less time and fewer resources to produce. But how do they taste We've got a few bags of whole roasted crickets in flavors like spicy hot, sour cream and onion, and totally taco to find out. All right, so I'm gonna start with the sea salt and vinegar. [BLANK_AUDIO] [MUSIC] I really don't get much sea salt or vinegar I get a whole out of cricket [LAUGH] But. Totally taco, these are ugly [MUSIC] [MUSIC] Tili tackle. If tackles were made entirely of crickets then nothing else are they. Spicy hot. [MUSIC] I didn't know pepper was good. So automatically add too much. [MUSIC] Hm, that's not hot. It's not hot at all, really. That's lame, mm-mm, needs to be. If it says spicy, that's very hot. [MUSIC] Jesus, it does You can still see his eyes. I'm about to eat this [UNKNOWN] look him in the eyes and then his gonna go right in- [MUSIC] [LAUGH] [MUSIC] Sour cream onion. Here we go. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] God. Could you get used to the [UNKNOWN] including crickets? Yeah. No. No. [LAUGH] You know there's. [LAUGH] So, nope I'm just gonna stick with no. In general yes, but like none of these excited me enough flavor wise to want it. [NOISE] Sorry I had a cricket head stuck in my teeth. [MUSIC] To answer your question, [LAUGH] no, I mean, there are so many other options for a healthy snack. I can have sunflowers The seeds, I could have popcorn. I don't feel the need to have crickets. So, would you eat cricket jerky, drink a cricket smoothie, maybe even take a bite into some cricket avocado toast. Well 80% of the world's nations, already eat bugs. So who knows this could be the next food trend. [MUSIC] It's crunchy. [MUSIC]
