CNET First Look
Westinghouse TX-47F430SThe Westinghouse TX-47F430S 1080p LCD wide-screen television, despite its lighter black levels, produces an otherwise solid picture for a very good price.
[ Music ] >> Hi, I'm David Katzmaier senior editor from CNET.com and I'm at the Westinghouse TX47F430S. This is a 47 inch LCD flat panel HD TV. It's a 1080P resolution model so it's designed to deliver every detail of the highest resolution HDTV sources. Westinghouse clad this TV entirely gray. There's this charcoal gray around the edge here, gray speakers below and again the dark gray stand that matches. It's a pretty nondescript almost industrial look, but maybe some people will like it. The menu system in this TV is actually pretty complex. You can go in and adjust a lot of the picture controls including fine tuning color temperature. And there's even quote unquote calibration menu that allows you to make some other adjustments. We really like that feature. Around back, you'll find a good selection of inputs including four HDMI inputs, one pc input, and two component video inputs. So, in terms of relatively inexpensive LCDs this is one the most well equipped in terms of input. It's a really nice thing. In terms of picture quality, the Westinghouse impressed us with its color accuracy. It's out of blocks color was very good and after adjustment it was even better. We also appreciated the video processing it handled 1080I and 1080P sources very well. On the flip side it's got some pretty bad black well performance when you turn down the lights and look at a dark scene the blacks are relatively bright and you can also see some different levels of black. The areas like the corners of the screen are a little bit brighter than the rest. So there's some uniformity problems, so, overall though it's a relatively good performing LCD. Anyway that's a quick look at the Westinghouse TX47F 430S and I'm David Katzmaier. ^M00:01:43 [ Music ]
