Ways to share travel expensesTraveling isn't cheap. But now, thanks to some ingenious new Web sites, travelers can split expenses while making friends along the way. In this Tech Minute, CNET's Kara Tsuboi reports how these sites might change the way you explore the world.
Lodging is one of the biggest expenses of your entire trip. Easynest.com is a great cost-saver for the solo traveler. It's built on the premise that hotels rent rooms for the same price regardless of number of occupants. So, the website helps two strangers connect in order to split expenses. Once you're in your destination, save money by connecting with friends of friends of friends of friends. The new site, aptly named Friends of Friends Travel or FOFtravel.com connects people based on their broader network to offer services like a place to stay, a city guide, a coffee date, or even just a place to stash your bags for a few hours. Finally, eat like a local with a local by using the site VoulezVousDiner.com. People post the type of meal they'd like to host and at what cost. Hungry travelers can sign up to enjoy the local cuisine and meet new friends. Once these sites are more populated with users, they offer great penny-pinching resources.
