Upgraded Google Cardboard brings VR to more phones
I'm here at Google IO.
And we know that Google unveiled VR last year with cardboard, and they're back with more cardboard.
This is a redesigned cardboard headset.
As opposed to the landscape where you're seeing a lot of expensive rigs, Google is going cheap.
This VR works with a lot of phones and more phones.
Six inches plus.
And with the new SCK, you can create unity apps that are going to be IOS and Android compatible.
Which means you could use this thing like some people already are for iPhone apps as well as Android.
There's also a whole new platform called jump that lets you shoot immersive videos using 16 connected go pros if you want to make one of these movies yourself.
And they shoot in 3D video so you're talking about.
To read the immersive video.
They're going to make this jump platform available, if you want to view some videos, later this year, on YouTube, in the summer.
Right now I've got this one on.
It looks pretty much the same, there's a slightly different capacitive phone button on top, but, otherwise it's pretty much cardboard.
I'm Scott Stein, at CNet.
