[ Background music ] >> Jeff Bakalar: Hey everyone I'm Jeff Bakalar for CNET.com. Today we are checking out the Turtle Beach Ear Force PT21 headset for the PlayStation 3. Now this is a very solid performingPS3 headset that can actually also double as a PC or Mac gaming headset. It's got a super long 16 foot cable so you can hook it into your PS3 and it has bypassing connectors so that you don't constantly need to unplug and re-plug in wires. Unfortunately there's no support for Dolby digital here as it only has stereo analog connections so you're going to need to adjust those PS3 audio settings before you can use the headset. It does however do a great job surround sound isolation which is only done through 2 channels, left and right. The chat for PS3 works well but you're going to need to use the included USB extension cable so that you can hook the headset right into your PS3. The microphone can move completely out of the way when not in use and we really like the 360 degrees of rotation. Sound quality is good and it also has an inline control box so that you can separately control chat and game volume controls independently. Also on there is a bass booster although we really didn't like that mode on. Overall this is a good Playstation 3 accessory we just really wish it supported surround sound. Now Turtle Beach does make a 5.1 Dolby digital surround sound headset but it only supports chatting on X-box 360. It will work with your PlayStation 3, just won't be able to chat with it.
