Tiny hologram breathes new life into this virtual assistant (Tomorrow Daily 300)Ashley and Jeff discuss an adorable miniature hologram made to act as your virtual assistant and how one robotics team is using an ATLAS robot to literally clean up shop.
[MUSIC] [SOUND] Greetings, citizens of the internet. Welcome to Tomorrow Daily, the best news talk show in the known universe. I'm Ashley Esqueda. And I'm Jeff Cannata. And every Monday through Wednesday, we hit you with the coolest tech headlines across the web, preparing you for Thursday. And speaking of Thursday, that's when we deep dive into our favorite headlines of the week and we usually welcome a guest. This week, I highly recommend you tune in on Thursday because we torture Jeff a little bit and it's great. [LAUGH] Yes, great is one word for it. Hey, it's Tuesday, so let's get right to those headlines. [MUSIC] Japanese start-up [UNKNOWN] Inc released a video this week showing off their hologram assistant. It's called GateBox and it's designed to be similar in function to other virtual assistants like Alexa, Siri and Cortona. The name of GateBox's digital assistant is Azuma Hikari, and she will wake you up in the morning Wish you farewell when you leave and greet you when you arrive home at the end of the day. It also works with the internet of things. So Zuma can connect to compatible devices in your house and give you information like the weather on demand. In on this? I know you like a Elexa. Yeah, sure put a hologram in my Elexa I'm ready for it. [LAUGH] A tiny Jeff Bezos. Hey Ashley, what do you with your atlas robot when you win second place in the Darper Robotics Challenge? Well if you are this group of people you make it clean up after you. That's right this is a multimillion dollar version Of Rosy the Robot from The Jetsons. The Institute for Human and Machine Cognition, or IHMC for short, has a team working on Atlas, and that work often includes repetitive tasks when the code is updated. So The team decided to come up with new tasks for Atlas to do, including chores. Atlas isn't very good at sweeping, but hopefully the work will help them in future robotics efforts. I know you want a Rosy the Robot. You wanted this for years. I, there is nothing I want more. [LAUGH] But this, it's so sad to watch this thing try to sweep. It doesn't know how to sweep. It is very sad. If you guys want to talk about any of the topics we discuss on the show during the week, please use hashtag #HEYTD. Yell at us on the Internet. Preferably on Twitter because that's where we see it. Yeah, and if we like what you yell at us, maybe we'll include it in our Thursday Deep Dive episode. Our Thursday 45 minute-long extravaganza. All right, that is it for our headlines. Lets check out our Phonetographer of the day. Aw, this Beautiful shot was taken by Michael on his iPhone 6 Plus. Yeah. Michael wrote us and said captured this on my iPhone 6 Plus. Just went on holiday to the Gold Coast and woke up early to catch the sunrise and couldn't miss this awesome moment. You by all means have permission to use this picture on your show. My goodness, isn't that gorgeous? Michael, that makes me want to actually get up at sunrise. Yeah. And then I think about how early it is and I give up. Or you could just stay up till sunrise. That's a really good point. If you guys wanna send in your photography you can, just email us, firstname.lastname@example.org, give us permission to use your picture on the show, and also make sure you attach it Some of you guys send some empty emails. It's really weird. And we love those little stories that you tell us about how you took the picture and where it is and all that stuff. That's fun too. Yeah.
