Ever and I'm Hollywood welcome to the best of buzz out loud our weekly digest -- basically the best news from the DLL shows that we've been doing every day. This week the launch of spotted by in the US has been highly anticipated and we talked with Ken parks. The chief content officer of spot by also fans -- over Netflix hiking its prices up to eat what 60%. And a woman sued a man for ending a relationship with her that started. On FaceBook also we have some advice for rim about what we hope is really not their product strategy. Problem over the weekend is they glitch in which the storage well ran dry and that the end the problem was that then basically Google plus spam every one with its barrage of error messages about how the disk space with full. And then they -- to -- and say the president that Google pluses senior vice president of social they can notre. Said please accept our apologies for the spam because this afternoon for about eighty minutes we ran out of the space on the service that keeps track notification. And our system continued to tried to -- and notification and over and over it and I do like the marketing spending and on this because they said Google and anticipate the service hitting these high threshold so as soon and our it is so -- is -- -- exclusive but even Google. -- could not support the -- -- From its 500 people using it right now there's there's a lot more than that there's probably a couple million on their by now probably but it is pretty -- There are like and how do you read out of this is too weak to -- first outing of tech land dot time dot com or is this actually is super secret marketing ploy and now with -- c'mon at that it's just engineering that's why it's that's -- can keep the maiden name on there forever there's at least wine. One user who says he thinks that. Google plus may have four point five million -- -- really is estimating that based on. US Census Bureau data and surnames that makes me feel good and it comes up with the US centric -- testament -- yeah it's a half million users. -- -- -- Zynga that's -- doesn't stop -- from there. You know like any other really trying to move to towards streaming an app among Americans -- we are expensive if you want ball. And actually it was only after the show that I kind of did realize like oh that's me. Like my plan that I'm -- 1598. Now and like -- dammit you got me I just switched to streaming only even though you don't have any movies on there. And it was sort of like we all have -- -- station at the same time in the Internet exploded. The Netflix and -- little page is just. -- -- -- Of raids I -- -- -- even know how many people decided to like Netflix yesterday just so they can be like FU I am canceling and -- they were deleting posts. And then I mean most of the posts on here like I'm out I'm done with the so I don't think it's worth it. So -- are you. Mad about is upset enraged neutral how are you feeling about it's how do you feel -- -- what I feel. Most concerned about is the fact that I did basically I just got railroaded right into signing -- streaming only plan because. I am not by any means gonna do you like a 70% price increase to keep getting the one dvd when the when dvd usually just that -- However. They're basically doing that at a time when their own streaming selection not only is not improving is actually getting worse. Because for example Sony just yanking all of those Sony movies and stars movies -- instant streaming until they can work -- a better deal and everybody is now starting to make noises about. Not being on Netflix -- like trying to get more money out of Netflix for streaming so the fact is. They've sort of force this change but it's too soon right they don't have the library to support. Wholesale forcing people -- -- Debit and they've never had -- library here's the thing on the flip side if you look at this for 1598. -- -- -- -- That you're still getting the best deal. For streaming and dvd content because let's look at it this way a lot of people are mad and no matter what when you look at the price tag everyone's gonna be like oh my gosh now I'm almost -- 200 dollars a year. For the plan that I used to have that was only seven mini nine and -- -- in -- -- year. But if you let's just say you just went to get. Netflix streaming plan because you work and you wanted to still rent dvds okay you -- go to service like red box which is like two dollars a dvd. Or go to somewhere like. Get -- on demand movies from Hulu our site YouTube -- Amazon. If you add that up that's still only. Three -- let's say three movies from Amazon. Plus the 799. From Netflix and that's sixteen bucks right there are you gonna watch more movies than that and stream probably. So when need to when you break down the -- even though no one's happy about it. I still think it's still the best deal on the Internet for streaming and watching content when you do that when you do Netflix -- dvd -- streaming it's still the best deal. Is that the best deal if you can't and the movie -- you wanna watch no but see that's when you go to the dvd side and -- anything gets a dvd you still get the dvd. You don't there's. I know I did it why people are -- yeah completely -- -- ended this plan caters to different people differently some people like myself. Streaming is -- right but I still end up renting movies from other places like. Sony's PS3 year maybe Amazon or YouTube and I don't like that let. I think that people are it's understandable -- compartment -- every recognized. Any -- at eight eat your -- -- that's a really good analysis like the map is is there to support the fact that it's still a good deal nobody is. Obviously ever gonna be happy about -- -- -- the price increase but I think the main reason people aren't happy is that a lot of people have started slowly started to embrace streaming. They really do you like it. But it's not even about price and selection are priced at about collection. And -- popular mad about it -- I'm happy to continue to pay for a streaming only plan and and I understand that your physical dvd costs are going up and I -- I even understand that licensing costs for Netflix are about it like to go through the roof they're about to skyrocket like they do need to charge more. But effectively and -- they have the streaming library to support it. It it feels like a bait and switch in some -- everybody was sort of oh now you have a streaming only plan that's awesome -- And your delaying dvd releases and then. Even when you're going to get the dvd is to like back up to crappy streaming selection. Netflix signed all the Netflix is the only one -- all of those deals where they're delaying the dvd really is -- it every day like that yet -- -- -- -- -- Even though it's a good deal it's like a good deal for a crappy product that I don't want him I don't wanna. And then it's a good deal for crappy product that -- an almost twice what it used to cost incidence of like that. Oh yeah it's cheap it's crap and they sometimes don't -- -- on -- -- crap. More than anything though this Netflix reaction is okay we're gonna get more money from the consumer -- it. They could've done it differently where. If they decided. Okay fine they're there argument is we need more money to lock down more these content deals -- Sony and start happening and they haven't they haven't yet. They need to say that they need that's what -- saying the PR the way to sheep this. Is the message came out. Because it just was floated out hate their increasing prices it was like what the -- -- instantly -- an official statement of why this is now if you're gonna do some sort of price increase. I would hope you actually lock down some exclusive content deals that have not been done before so people go. Okay you know it. I'm okay with that because now not even through stars and getting Sony's collection directly through Netflix then I'm getting Warner Bros. collection directly to Netflix I can live with. But most people can't live with the fact that content is going away and -- -- more at the end of it yeah that's the problem. Spot by guys launches two -- officially in the US. Now there's ways against the program invite or you have to pay for their regular service or premium -- we had a chance. But we're not looking back and reflecting we're -- looking forward and we're just absolutely overjoyed to be landing in the biggest music market in the world today. They -- this is Brian with buzz out loud. You have a unique you've been a unique position where you're also big play with EMI who is one of the labels you sign it and now your on the side -- modify. However those negotiations really play out is is it. -- it. Nasty is a prolongs it hard is it easy because we know we as consumers just wanna see the service come here but you guys have to deal all the nitty -- how is that. Well for us it's all about the -- the end of the day as well. You know what. We don't talk about what happens in the course of negotiations and a lot of things obviously due to do have been promised for why the journey is that taken so long. Well look. You know we wanted to be careful about the way we approach the biggest music market in the world we've enjoyed a lot of success in Europe but we're not we're not arrogant we -- that the US is a is it different kind of place in many ways. Need a -- what's -- about this amazing free experience -- -- users invested. In music again. And we were very keen to make sure that we were able to you know translate that model and import it into the into the US that we had to be careful about that. Rights holders probably felt the same way this is the biggest music market world they -- to to deliberate. But again you know we're not there -- not really looking back at that. You know. Spot if I wasn't that overnight success in Europe. Maybe. A lot of people don't understand it took us quite a while actually to -- to get the deals we needed to launch in Europe going on three years ago. So. You know it's understandable that everyone wants to approach the biggest music market in the world and a careful way. And we're just really thrilled to have all the major labels in a raft of Indies on board for you us launching. And -- -- -- your coming in at a time when other companies are finally starting to sort of get into this business you're facing potential competition from. App from Amazon from Google from Apple certainly how how to spot by differentiate itself what what it you know what's the was elevated to take -- for the -- those in the US who are familiar with it. Well look. Spotlight puts at your fingertips. Basically all the music in the were older fifteen million songs pretty tough to do in Ramallah requires you to buying all that stuff. So simply put you know and without. You know being being arrogant about it we think it's simply a better experience -- off then as than the ones offered by. Other -- services it's lightening fast if -- -- played with it. The access to those fifteen million songs is you know instantaneous in a fraction of a second you can be listening to any song you want we made it dead simple to share your music and music is one of those social things there is. So one of the first things you do when you download the the application. Is your -- import all your FaceBook friends and within seconds literally -- sharing your collection. With all of your friends which is pretty great and we think it just offers a superior value. There is this amazing free experience that's -- -- really engaging. And downed trees are pretty good value. Definitely now there's a lot of people here it's launched in the US. But in order -- you -- get -- you either have to get an invite or you can set up -- of.
