The HP Spectre x2's stand sets it apart
HP redesigned the Spectre X2 two-in-one for 2017, and the new model has an elegant yet functional design with a great keyboard, a bright, sharp screen with a decent stylus, and above average sound for a tablet.
Two-in-one's with their detachable keyboards really can't be used on a lap, otherwise I really like this one.
You can pound on it without feeling any give in either the keyboard or the stand and it provides very good feedback.
The touchpad is also relatively big given the size of the keyboard and didn't make me curse once.
The 3000x2000 resolution screen is small at 12.3 inches but that means it has a high pixel density.
293 pixels per inch.
That makes it sharp and easy to read.
It's also pretty bright, especially if you turn off the double secret regional backlight control while on power.
But if you're looking for accuracy or broad color gambit, it doesn't really hit the mark.
This one only covers about 93% of Hard to beat.
The 3:2 aspect like the Surface Pro's feels a lot more comfortable to work with as a tablet than the typical 16 by 9 aspect.
It does mean streaming video gets letter-boxed, but because of the small, pixel-dense screen HD video looks very sharp.
The kickstand has nice tension, can be pulled out with one hand, and can tilt back with the screen at 165 degree angle for inking with firm support.
If you like a rubbery feel for your stylus nib, which I do, you'll like the HP Active Pen.
Even if you never draw, its 1024 levels of pressure helps make your signature look really natural.
