CNET First Look
The G-Tech GDrive EV ATC is one tough and versatile portable driveThe Gdrive EV ATC portable drive is fast, rugged, versatile and all-around great. And CNET editor Dong Ngo doesn't need it. Find out why.
[MUSIC] Hey guys. **** Ngo here and this is the Gdrive evATC from G-Technology. Now you can see it. It's quite huge. But for a few good reasons. First is tough enough to handle drop from up to 6.6 feet or 2 meter. It can also deal with dust, water splash, and pressure. Now if you're wondering if it can del with water submersion well it doesn't have to because it actually floats. And secondly this is a fun little/ drive and take a look, it has. Very cool built in cable right here. Just peel it off and plug in, and you are ready. This is a [UNKNOWN] power drive, and that means there's no need for a separate power adapter. And finally, in case your computer does not have a [UNKNOWN] port, you can also use this drive with a USB port. Now here's how. Just open the case here and take a look on the inside. The drive holds another portable drive, the ev RaW. Now, the RaW here connects to the computer using this USB [UNKNOWN] port right here. There's also this other port for it to work with other ev products, such as this ev G [UNKNOWN] that I have here. So, if you've been using the ev ecosystem from G technology, The new drive here will fit in very nicely. Now, performance wise, this right here did very well in my testing both with Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 with a top sustained real world copy speed of close to 140MBps. That is very fast for a hard drive based portable drive, and that means for the current cost of $200 for one TB is a good buy for a drive of this type. Now, for more, check out my full review at cnet.com, but basically, this is a great drive for those who need a [UNKNOWN] who can deal with Rough, dirty, or wet environments. And I don't need it because my environment is completely smooth, clean, and dry. Okay, maybe a bit more sometimes. That's because I'm [UNKNOWN] and this has been the first look at the G Drive EVATC from GTechnology. [MUSIC]
