CNET First Look
Sony VAIO LT19UWe don't recommend Sony's new VAIO LT19U as an all-in-one PC for everyday computing, but if you're shopping for a flexible, self-contained, HD-capable digital entertainment center, look no further.
[ Music ] >> Hi, I'm Rick Brown, senior editor for cnet.com. Today we're going to take a look at the Sony Vaio LD19U. It certainly has a lot of the things you expect from an all-in-one PC. From a built-in web cam, wireless networking, nice big 22-inch wide screen TV, as well as built in speakers. It's a pretty self contained system. Sony also made a great effort to make the system for expandable than a typical all-in-one, and it also added a Blu-Ray player making it a really high-end device. Now another one of the defining features of this system are its looks. You can see that it rivals the iMac in terms of nice, clean design. Sony really wants you to have a clean desktop when you're using this system. You could even take that a step further. The support on the back of the system comes right off and you can mount it on any basic compatibility hardware. So as we said, Sony actually made the system pretty expandable, at least for an all-in-one. You take off this back panel, so here you can see the wall mount screws that we're talking about. Take this port right off. It's very easy. Here you have some cable wrangling going on. And over there, there's some external ports. Right here you get access to the memory and if we take off this panel right here we can get to the hard drive sled. Here Sony includes an extra tray that you can pull out and install an additional hard drive. Very few other all-in-ones that we know of give you that amount of flexibility. And finally with this package Sony also includes an ATI TV Wonder [Phonetic] digital capable tuner. It takes both cable card and standard analog coaxial cable inputs so if you're not comfortable going with the cable card standard you don't have to worry. You can still get a TV signal on this system. So with all those parts and the fact that this system is pretty self contained, Sony imagines that you'll use this system as a secondary entertainment device, possibly in a bedroom or another room in your house. We should warn you that this isn't the fastest desktop around. The iMac did a lot better on our performance tests. Still, as a self contained entertainment system, we recommend it. So I'm Rich Brown and this is the Sony Vaio LT19U. ^M00:01:50 [ Music ]
