Skirmish Is probably not the Battlefront offline mode you're looking for
What's up guys, I'm Lucy.
And I'm Tamoor.
And we're here at Star Wars Celebration 2016, to play a little bit of Star Wars Battlefront, the brand new mode called Skirmish.
Yup, it's an offline mode so it's pretty much what everyone's been asking for for ages.
But it's not quite probably what they want.
It's just two modes that already exist, the walker assault and the [INAUDIBLE] squadron, except now you can play it with AI.
Let's talk a little bit about AI.
We played all the modes.
We played [INAUDIBLE] we played them in coop, we played them by ourselves The AI is.
So it's very objective-driven, you'll always find AI travelling all over your objective and it does keep a game moving.
But I found in particular, like when they weren't doing that, they were about as useful as a chocolate sea fart, because There's those points where they'll just line up and just stand still.
Yeah, so it's like you said, so the AI, DICE has really built the AI.
They just keep pushing them out and march forward.
And if you've played a Battlefield game, which is also another game from DICE, and been in a multiplayer match where nobody's actually following the objective, they're just killing each other, You get that same kind of vibe where it's going on a bit too long, and it seems to be dragging out.
So I think they focused on making sure the AI is always going to capture points, taking cover.
And then when the walker appears to assault it.
Or kind of, you know, keeping you supported.
If you run up against any enemies on the field.
Nine times out of ten you will kill them, because they probably won't even-
9.9 times out of 10.
Yeah, they barely will shoot at you.
They might shuffle to the left or the right to try and avoid some-
We know it's [UNKNOWN] game when you got 100+ kills.
Yeah, my final match I got 104 kills, and that was pretty much because they were just running towards me and just staring at me the entire time.
Not the most challenging, but I"m really not sure who it's for.
I think if it had launched when the main game launched, it would have been a great precursor to prepare people for online multiplayer.
But I think what you really lose when you're playing skirmish is those fun, random moments that you get when playing people online You don't get skillful play.
You don't get people, you wouldn't get a Luke Skywalker or one of the hero characters coming out unless you did it.
That's part of the fun, right?
It's like players on the field, you [INAUDIBLE].
A lot of what made Battlefront good to play, it's not a terribly deep game
It's very simple.
It's base level multiplayer shooting but what made it fun is when you group up with some friends and work together to push objectives.
It's a very simple type of kinda experience, [UNKNOWN] experience.
Without that, it's kind of empty.
It feels a bit like you're wandering around a field on your own, not doing much.
And like you said You know I have these amazing moments were experts are coming in, all layers jumping in, or Darth Vader because there's no one else to kind of make that happen that isn't new.
If it's just you doing it all the time, it gets to be a bit boring.
You know, it's kind of a shame, but they are all multi SD coming out later this year, so we've got Death Star coming out.
If you find to give Scrimmage a go, you can download it today, July 20th.
And of course we've got battlefront two coming.
Get excited for that.
Maybe the offline mode will be apart of the battlefront two launch.
Kind of hope.
