Samsung SB-208BW Optical SmartHubThe Samsung SB-208BW Optical SmartHub makes a fun and convenient accessory for streaming buffs who own Wi-Fi-enabled mobile devices.
Hey, guys. Dong Ngo for CNET.com here and today, do you know what? This is something fun. Let's watch Kill Bill together on my iPhone. So Kelly, come over here. Sit here. Come on. You know what, you check this phone with Android and you can do that too and that's because I have here the new cool device called the Optical SmartHub from Samsung. Now, this is an optical drive with a WiFi network built-in which means it can stream content from your DVD to multiple mobile devices. Let's see how it works. All right. The movie is now all set. So two thing we have to do now. First, I have to get the phone connected to the WiFi network of the Smart Hub and number two, I have to download the apps called Mobile SmartHub from Samsung which is free download and you see the icon of the DVD. Press on it and then you can view the title, the chapter, the artist, subtitle etc. and of course you can play the movie on the phone and Kelly said he could do that too, right? Yup. I got it right here. Now, other than DVDs, the SmartHub can also stream content stored on extra hard drive like this one here. Just put the drive into the USB port on the back of the hub and then that's it. All you have under the hard drive with photo, video or music can be streamed to multiple mobile devices. On the back of the SmartHub, you can find also another USB port. This port here is used to connect the Hub to a computer and use it as a regular extra optical drive. There's also a network port here which is used to connect the Hub to an existing internet source such as a program modem or your home network. This would be the mobile devices connected to the Hub via it's WiFi can also get to the internet. Apart from playing back content, you can also use the SmartHub to back-up data of your mobile devices. For example, on the phone here you can choose to back-up different type of content and choose to back-up either on the connected extra hard drive or a blank DVD. To find out why it's not a great device for your PC or non-WiFi devices and other information, check out the full review at CNET.com.
