CTIA Super Mobility Week
Samsung Mesmerize (U.S Cellular)At CTIA Fall 2010, Kent German takes a look at another addition to the Samsung Galaxy S series, the Samsung Mesmerize.
Hi, I'm Kent German, senior editor for CNET.com. I'm here at CTIA Fall 2010 in San Francisco and I wanna show you the Samsung Mesmerize. This is probably the Samsung Galaxy S series and this is going to be available for US Cellular, so really with this phone, the Galaxy S series is making it to all the big and regional carriers in the United States so it's gonna be very similar to the Fascinate, the Vibrate, the Captivate, the Epic 4G. It does not have a keyboard, the Epic 4G did, so you're gonna do all your input through this display. It is a very big display, it's very bright, it's vibrant. I really like the look of it. Does have seven home screens so you can cycle between them. Of course, you can populate it with all the widgets you want, with all the-- any kind of shortcuts, applications. Does have the Samsung Daily Briefing. You can see that here. What that is is that's a widget that you can stock with your personalized news, maybe your work e-mail, the weather, so when you wake up in the morning, you can see everything you need for that day. A few controls down here for accessing the phone dialer. Of course, it's gonna be a virtual dial pad. You also have a virtual keyboard for your messaging. That will work in both orientations. The phone is very thin, has a plastic back, it doesn't feel exactly sturdy to me. I'd be a little afraid about dropping it a lot of times but does have a comfortable feel in the hands and it does have a really sleek profile which I like. Here you can see the camera lens, that's for the 5-megapixel camera. It also has flash. Not really any options for self portraits, though. Inside, you're gonna find standard Android features so all the Google applications, GPS, you're gonna have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, camera, as I mentioned, with video capture so everything on a high end smartphone that you'd expect. It is gonna go on sale for $199, that's with a contract and after a rebate. This does have Android 2.1 so doesn't have Froyo. It has the latest version of clair. Really good price especially for the phone and for US Cellular. I'm Kent German and this is the Samsung Mesmerize.
