RCA Mobile DTVMolly Wood takes a First Look at RCA Mobile DTV at CES 2011 in Las Vegas.
-Hey everyone, I'm Molly Wood from CES 2011 with the first look at one of the more interesting trends that's developing in this years show; mobile digital TV. Now, mobile TV has been tried before with mixed success, but now people were thinking with this whole DTV switch over, it might be time to just take another crack at it and this time, take it mobile. RCA is one of the companies that has announced product here at CES. They have a series of mobile DTV television that starts at $109 and range up to $169 for a 7-inch mobile digital television. Now, they also have and I think this is pretty cool an adaptor that you can use in your car. So, if you actually already have an in-car entertainment system, you can plug this adaptor into the RCA jack. You can put a little antenna on top of your roof, which I think might be a tiny bit impractical. But if you do that, you actually have free over-the-air mobile digital television. Now the draw back here is that they're just aren't very many mobile TV channels actually broadcasting. In the Washington DC area, it's a bit of a hot bed; there are plenty of channels there, so, you have lots to choose from. In other places, there are 4 or 5 if any. But obviously, manufacturers are hoping that this is the trend that's gonna catch on, a mobile digital TV for free over the air is about to become a reality, well see. At CES 2011, I'm Molly Wood for CNET.
