Quick Tips: Legal file sharing with LimeWireNot all file sharing breaks the law. Find out how to stay legal and still get free videos, music, and software.
[ music ] ^M00:00:01 >> Limewire is a program that lets you share files over a P to P, now whoa, whoa, whoa. Not all file sharing is illegal. Maybe most of it, but not all. There are free videos, games and even music that people want to share legally. I'm Tom Merritt from CNET.com. Here's a quick tip for how to use Limewire to download legal files. We're gonna start by asking Limewire not to show us the copyright protected files. Go to the filters menu. Select the configure content filters option. Then check, enable content filters. Press okay. Now you're ready to go. In the main Limewire window, select the video search tab, type in whatever it is you're looking for. We'll type in Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd. Then press search. Limewire is confirming that any of the search results it puts up do not appear on a list of copyright protected files that content owners have requested not be shared. In under a minute, you have a list of public domain, copyright free, Looney Tunes. The numbers next to a file indicate the number of people sharing it. A file with a higher number will finish downloading faster. Double click on a file to start downloading it and monitor it's progress in the window at the bottom of the screen. Depending on the file size and your connection speed, your file should arrive shortly and in one piece. Keep in mind, the filter Limewire uses isn't perfect. The copyright owner has to tell Limewire to block something, so filtering doesn't guarantee a file you're about to download is copyright free. However, Limewire will alert you if it can't find a license for something you're about to download. I'm Tom Merritt for CNET.com. Th, th, th, that's all folks. ^M00:01:42 [ music ]
