Hi. This is Brian Bennett for Cnet.com. And if you're like me, and frankly many Americans, you probably packed on a few unwanted pounds over the winter. Just in time for beach season. If that's the case, don't freak out. At least not for long. FitBit's new Aria Smart Scale is here to help and probably humiliate you a little bit too. The 129.95 Aria is part of a new growing category of Wi-fi connected bathroom scale product designed to do way more than tell you how much you weigh. It sends a mild electrical impulse through your body to detect your percentage body fat and also calculates your BMI. The Aria then pushes that data to FitBit servers in the cloud over your home wi-fi network. Best of all though is how this info is integrated into FitBit's large selection of online tools to analyze and plan your personal fitness data, goals and tactics. For example, you can track your activity level measured by the FitBit ultra device against calorie intake and real life weight numbers. Android and (??) app also let you log meals on the go. The FitBit Aria itself looks like a very sophisticated bathroom scale. It's flats, has a cool smokey black surface and circular back lid LCD display. On the back of the 4.3 pound device is an interesting bubble light pattern made from ANS plastic that bears weight well. Here too is a battery compartment for 4 double A batteries. Setting up the FitBit Aria is easy as well the entire process can be done wirelessly using a wi-fi connected PC or Mac. I'm Brian Bennett and this has been first look at the FitBit Aria.
