CNET First Look
Pantech Jest (Verizon Wireless)The Pantech Jest is a decent messaging phone for the young social -networking enthusiast, but the optical pad might be a nuisance.
-I'm Nicole Lee, senior associate editor for cnet.com and this is a first look at the Pantech Jest for Verizon Wireless. It is a simple square shape messaging phone. On the front here is a 2.6-inch display here, very nice and colorful, very vibrant as you can see here. Underneath that, you do get the navigation array. The center d-pad here acts as an optical directional pad or like an optical mouse. You can use the optical track pad to navigate through the phone. I have to say that I didn't really like the optical track pad just because it wasn't as responsive as I would like. On the back here is a 2.0-megapixel camera lens as well as a self-portrait mirror. Slide the phone up and you'll get a full QWERTY keyboard. The keyboard here is a little bit small, a little bit cramped but the keys are raised above the surface so we could still text and dial by feel. The Pantech Jest is a messaging centric phone so you get the usual text and multimedia messaging features, instant messaging, as well as e-mail. Other features include GPS with VZ Navigator support, stereo Bluetooth, and a music player. There's also a Social Beat application that gives you access to social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace and it also gives you quick access to an RSS reader. The Pantech Jest is available for free with a new 2-year service agreement with Verizon Wireless. I'm Nicole Lee. This has been a first look at the Pantech Jest.
