CNET First Look
Pantech Jest 2 offers a square dealThe Jest 2 brings basic features for a cheap price, but its flat call quality and square shape don't do it any favors.
Hi, I'm Kent German, Senior Managing Editor at CNET. So today, we take a first look at the Pantech Jest 2. This is a new phone from Verizon Wireless. It's got that squat square shape. I'm not a huge fan of the shape personally. If you're gonna have a texting phone like this, I'd really like it to be sort of long and when you tilt it on its side and you rotate it up just 'cause you get so much more room in the keyboard. The display supports 262,000 colors, so not terribly bright, not terribly colorful and not really vibrant. But really perfectly fine for a phone of this caliber. It is free with service and it's really meant for basic texting and e-mailing and calling. You do have Bluetooth with basic organizer features, has e-mail and instant messaging. E-mail is a web based service though. So it's a little bit clunky and it's gonna cost you 9.99 per month if you wanna use it. Sound and call quality was possible, not great. A bit of a hollow feeling on my end, some audio cutouts. Definitely a phone for someone that just wants to keep in touch. Just a basic communicator. I'm not a huge fan of this design if we're going up for a texting phone as I said. I just like it to be a little bigger. I'm Kent German and this is the Pantech Jest 2 from Verizon Wireless.
