Lexmark Platinum Pro 905
>> Hey guys, it's Justin Yew, associate editor for
cnet.com. And today I think the pleasure of introducing
you to Lexmark's latest business ink jet printer. It's
the Platinum Pro 905. Now this is Lexmark's $400
flagship printer, and it's at the top of its class,
providing an efficient touch-screen, dual paper input
trays, and innovative smart solutions widgets that all
serve to increase productivity in the work place. So
let's take a closer look, shall we? As we can see the
front of the printer is bare, with only one hard button
for power that sits just to the left of this 4.3-inch
touch-screen LCD. Now I know what you're thinking, what
business does a touch-screen have on a printer. Well,
like HP's Photo Smart premium TouchSmart Web, the idea
is that you can connect the printer directly to the
Internet and download what Lexmark calls smart
solutions, or customizable applications like functional
short cuts, photo viewers, and on line apps. And you
can even reorder and label the applications with various
icons and details. Now the touch-screen actually does
come in handy because Lexmark doesn't force you to dive
too far into menus and sub menus. The user interface is
organized, fast, and easy to use. Now our only question
to Lexmark is why remove all of the hard buttons. Now
all right, touch-screens are super-hip nowadays. But
there is actually a reason why hard buttons exist on
printers in the first place. It's because it's way
easier to just walk up and hit a button rather than
scroll through a list of short cuts on a virtual screen.
Now anyway, touch-screen aside, the Pro 905 does build
in a bunch of extra features that give it an advantage
over the competition. Now we understand that the $400
price point might deter you at first, but when you
consider extra features like a 150-sheet tray, built in
Wi-Fi, Lexmark's newest Visix individual ink cartridges,
another 150-sheet tray, and a host of productivity
programs all included with the driver, you know, it
makes perfect sense to welcome this multi-functioner as
a new member of your office team. So be sure to check
out our full review for more details, but that's going
to do it for me. I'm Justin Yew, and you just took a
first look at the Lexmark Platinum Pro 905
multi-function printer. Thanks for watching.
