Lenovo IdeaPad U310Lenovos 799 ultrabook is perfectly priced in time for back to school shopping.
And Scott Stein and went back to school shopping season unfortunately right around quarter a lot of people are looking for thin. Affordable laptops that are like the MacBook Air -- you can save a couple hundred dollars along the way that's a good thing. Other good news is that when it comes to windows ultra books the price has dropped -- you were looking in India thousand dollars 11100 dollars. And you're starting to see ones for as low 799. Case in point the IdeaPad U 310 now this may not really look so much like an ultra book in the sense that it's not super -- it is ultra books and it point seven inches. But that still thicker than a MacBook air and weighs about a half pound more than a MacBook Air. Is that a MacBook now a lot of people are gonna ask you that question. Because it really does look like a MacBook it's like the return of the white MacBook here. The keyboard the large tract pad if -- been a windows user fantasize about having a MacBook like laptop. -- is the one for you. And that size fits right in between the thirteen inch MacBook Pro and the air. We're getting in here is a core I 53 gen Intel processor. That's a lower crop processor speed that you'd find in your sort of high and I'm not -- book laptops and give you an equivalent performance to using a MacBook Air. -- girls are gonna get here are up 500 gigabyte hard drive you do not get an access. Now -- -- ultra books are packing those very fast flash based. Storage devices into there on laptops and their expenses you know when you -- to bulk -- up to a 256 gigabyte version. I'm -- -- a now the advantage to that hard drive solution is that you're gonna pay a lot less board and get 500 gigabytes. But the flip side is that it won't be quite as zippy but -- function like a regular laptop hard drive. In this instance you can not upgrade. To a full SSDs and you're stuck with that. Although certain versions of this laptop -- -- 32 gigabytes of flash storage does about the booting process they feel a little bit faster. There's also four gigs of ram and there's plenty of ports that's pretty solid package so when you lose this package. We don't get Bluetooth and you also don't get a dvd drive no surprise you don't get that in any ultra book. But lot of people don't use dvd drives anyhow keep -- in mind. The rest of the package is okay and in the keyboards find the track pad -- being it's not as great as a MacBook Air not that long shot and the battery life is very solid. But not spectacular. We're really gonna get the most out of here is that 799 price -- bang for the buck. Now be aware that there are other laptops out there they're gonna hit that price and offer a surprisingly similar set of components. The Sony Vaio T which we reviewed here at CNET. Also look at the Dell Inspiron fourteen Z. Which has dedicated AMD graphics costs a little bit more but again -- very similar package. There's a category keep an -- probably gonna pick one of these would be great back to school laptop. If it's not the IdeaPad U 310 in May be one of those others.
