iPhone 4S: Same lines, different productApple today released the fifth version of its popular smartphone, iPhone 4S. Like similar releases, people around the world lined up for hours to be among the first to get their hands on the new model. CNET's Kara Tsuboi reports.
-From Japan to Paris, from New York to Chicago, and even here in San Francisco, Apple fans worldwide are lining up to buy the latest iPhone, the 4S. -This is one of those magical important points in time. You wanna be there for this big event. -A big event because this is the final iPhone released during Apple cofounder, Steve Jobs's lifetime; one of many reasons why this iPhone could break sales records. -They just have this allure on their devices. They're so-- They're so easy to use. They're-- They're very pretty, sort of lack of a better word. And people just seem to be really be happy to wanna use them. No other company has been able to do that. -I'm here in front of the downtown San Francisco Apple Store where this line shows that there is clearly interest in the iPhone 4S, but experts say there are significantly less buzz and excitement than from previous iPhone releases. One reason is that many people had expected a complete makeover for the iPhone. The 4S has all new insights, but the same look outside. Despite that, CNET editor, Kent German, says there are plenty of new and appealing features like Siri, a voice activated personal assistant. -Here's the forecast for today. -There is an A5 processor so that will make the phone faster, will make better graphics, camera's upgraded to 8 megapixel, also adds a better sensor, better video. -Droid phones are pretty good, but I am excited about the new features on this-- on this particular phone. -You have the 4. Why do you need the 4S? -It's faster, better graphics, HD recording. -Some analysts expect Apple to sell more than 4 million phones this weekend alone. In San Francisco, I'm Kara Tsuboi, cnet.com for CBS news.
