iPad Air 2 in-depth: the iPad Air gets a total tune-upNew fast processor, better cameras, Touch ID, and it's even thinner: see what makes this year's iPad even better than before, even if it feels like a familiar package.
[MUSIC] Slightly thinner. It's faster. But it's still an iPad. I'm Scott Stein and the iPad Air 2 has debuted. Now, if you've been looking for an iPad. Every year there's a new iPad. And maybe what you're expecting is something new, revolutionary. Something you've never seen before. But at this point the iPad is a lot more like the MacBook Air. It's a product that's pretty refined. Pretty perfected and something that looks the same year over year. The iPad Air II is a even more thin and tech spec bumped up refinement of last year's iPad Air. And if you want the smaller one the iPad Mini III as it's called really the only thing that's new there is touch id. Here, you're getting touch ID as well. Now, this is the feature that we were waiting for last year, and it enables you to log in and make purchases, but you can't swipe it to make payments like an iPhone. This is really only for use in apps. This also has a new processor, an A8X, so it's another step up over the iPhones, which are A8. So, for graphics, you might see more of a boost. And thin? We're talking 6.1 millimeters. Now it's thinner, but to the average person you're not gonna see the difference between this and the iPad Air. This is a little under a pound, the other one was a pound, so it's not the dramatic change that it was last year. The cameras, front and back, have gotten a boost, so if you're an iPad photographer, iPad photo connoisseur you are in luck. Now, people may scoff the idea of taking photos with your iPad but for front facing cameras. If you're using it for Face Time. It's actually very helpfully because the quality and the aperture have changed here. To make it a little more effective in low light and higher contrast situations. And, in the back, you are getting some of the features you've seen on iPad cameras before, like better face detection. You're getting slow-mo finally, and you're getting time lapse. But you're not gonna get that focus pixels and that super auto focus that's in the iPhone 6. At the low end, at $499, you are gonna get 16 gigs. But if you're going to pay up to $599 now, you're getting 64 instead of 32. Or 128 instead of 64, you go to 699, and again, selling alerts [UNKNOWN] will be $130 more no matter which model you pick. You can also now pick your iPad in gold. That's right, this is gold color. Now much like the iPhones, you could pick between silver, space gray and gold. Gold really is just more of like a light bronzing on the back. And white on the front. The iPad Air 2's display is still 9.7 inches and 2048 by 1536 just like last year, same retina. Although there is a better anti-reflective coating here. Do you need one of these? Well if you got an iPad Air last year I think you're gonna do just fair. If you're waiting for something revolutionary that's going to change the iPad equation, maybe we'll see one in the future. But for now, this is the best iPad that has been available it is just probably a little more like the last iPad than you may have thought. I'm Scott Stein with the iPad Air 2, an overall refinement on an already excellent product. [MUSIC]
