Inside the virtual dome: Sensics SmartGogglesRafe Needleman takes a spin through virtual space with the bug-eyed virtual reality demonstrator from Sensics.
Okay, this is Rafe Needleman and I am wearing the Sensixx smart goggles. This is an Android powered fully immersive headset. There's a computer here I think or a battery... Stereo vision here. As I move I can see buildings in front of me and as I take the control, I can bash it, as I jump up and down it tracks my movement. This... this product is... oh man the real world is so boring... This little guy here is a... is a (test pad?) for Sensixx. This is a company that does augmented reality... products for training and most of their contracts are military. They're hoping that consumer companies pick this up. As I said this guy has an Android computer in it... and stereo vision. These guys here at the front are cameras so it can overlay the real world onto the video that you see here or the video that you see here onto the real world depending on how you look at it. The sound here will drive you insane but it's totally immersive. Anyway... kinda heavy but on the head it feels okay 'cause it's balanced front and back. So Sensixx makes this. They hope other consumer, electronic companies pick it up. So maybe we'll see Android powered games that are fully immersive based on this prototype technology. I'm Rafe Needleman from CNET.
