Huawei Ascend Mate breaks battery record
I'm Jessica Dolcourt from CNET, here at CES 2013 in Las Vegas.
This vehement that I'm holding in my hand is the Huawei Ascend Mate.
Just announced today, it has a whopping 6.1-inch screen.
It is literally about the size of my face, I think.
So, it's definitely a big phone, huge phablet, largest one we have seen.
Little small for a tablet, but enormous for a phone
that you might actually hold to your face.
That said, it does have a lot going on for it in terms of features.
It's got Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on it, with a few customizations.
It's got a 1.5 gigaHertz Quad Core processor made by Intel, an 8-megapixel camera on the back with flash, and a front-facing camera as well.
Powering all of this, of course, is an enormous battery, largest one we have seen.
It's 4050 mAh.
So, that's larger even than the
Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx.
There is no LTE on this model yet.
That doesn't mean that it won't arrive at some future point.
There is no pricing or availability either.
So, right now, this is kind of what we see.
Definitely expecting it to come to Europe and Asia first, then the U.S. might get a carrier at some point as well.
So, how does it feel in the hand?
It's definitely really big.
I'm not gonna be putting this into my pocket.
It will definitely fit into a purse or maybe a very large jacket pocket.
pretty light, but this is a midi chunker.
For operation, there is one-handed operation which will kinda squeeze the keyboard out and slide it over the side.
You've seen that for phablets before.
But I'm not sure I really wanna reach my thumb across.
Of course, I also have small hands.
Anyway, this was your first look at the Huawei Ascend Mate here at CES.
