How to set up Alexa voice control for Sonos speakers
Sonos is one of the first audio companies to enable voice control via Amazon Alexa.
And we're gonna walk you through setting up your existing Sonos speaker with an Amazon Echo Dot as an example and then how to control it.
Firstly, make sure you have the latest version of the Amazon Alexa app.
And then make sure your Sonos system is also up to date.
At the moment, Amazon Control is part of the Sonos public beta.
So you need to sign up for it first.
So in the Sonos app, press more, then settings, and then advanced settings.
Tap beta program, and then select join the beta program.
Once you have your Sonos up and running, much of the work then involves the Alexa app.
So using the Alexa App go to skills in the menu and search for sonos.
Once you found it add it and then click yes until you need to get permission for Alexa to control your sonos.
There press okay.
Next you'll need to sign into your Amazon account.
Next you get a pop up for you to choose your devices.
Press the Discover button and it should find the Sonos devices on your system automatically.
Lastly, use your Amazon Alexa app to choose your default music service and put in your signing details.
Now, if it's all working correctly, you should be able to ask the Sonos to play music.
Just be aware that unlike Google Home, you can't set up one speaker as your default, so you need to say the name of your device each time you want to play music.
But Alexa will know when you're using a speaker, so you won't need to repeat the name each time.
