How to change Alexa's name
By default, saying Alexa near one of Amazon's speakers, will activate the voice assistant.
That said, if you have someone in your household by the same name or the television constantly activates your speaker, you may want to consider changing the wake word.
To stop unwanted activations, open the Alexa app on IOS or Android and tap the hamburger button in the top left corner.
Tap settings and then select one of the devices under Alexa devices to open the settings menu for that specific speaker.
Tap wake word and in the drop down menu select either Alexa, Amazon, Echo or computer, then click Click Save.
Now instead of saying the default Alexa to activate the speaker, you will have to speak either Echo, Amazon, or Computer to interact with your speaker.
The device name is separate from its wake word.
If you have more than one Alexa speaker, giving each one a unique name will make your life easier.
With different settings for each Alexa device, it's important to differentiate them in the app to avoid confusion.
Once more, open the Alexa app on iOS or Android and go to settings.
Select one of the devices and decide device name, click edit.
Type in a new name such as living room or office and save your changes.
Setting a personal name to your Alexa speakers will make it easier to call the correct speaker using drop in within the household or just select the correct speaker to play music with using an app like Spotify.
