Home8's ActionView Garage Control System is smart, but stymied
Home8 offers DIY home security starter kits with products like door/window sensors, smoke detectors and alarm systems.
The $100 homemade action view garage door control system and includes remote access, video, voice command and motion detection.
The action view garage system includes a standard definition camera, a hub called a security shuttle and a garage door controller.
The HomeMate app manages these devices.
The security shuttle connects to your router and the HomeMate camera and the garage door controller, pair automatically.
The garage door controller connects to your existing garage door opener using two wires and an adhesive strip.
There arent any garage door sensors included in the kit, so to register if the door is open or closed, you'll need to purchase HomeMates $50 tilt sensor.
I'm a fan of garage system that incorporate a camera for a live look at what's happening in your garage.
The homemade camera include night vision, person and motion detection, and the option to alert yourself, authorized users, and local first responders.
My Streaming Video is free with your ActionView Garage kit, but viewing recorded clips in the videogram section of the app costs $10 per month.
The Homemade app supports every Homemade device.
So if you only use the Garage kit, you'll see several extra categories.
The Homemade Garage system works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for voice commands.
But with no door sensor, you can't specify open or close.
If you're already a Home 8 user or are interested in building a DIY home security system from the ground up, this garage control kit might be a good fit.
Otherwise, I'd recommend the Gogo Gate 2 for broader camera integrations, a more focused app, and affordable recording clips.
