HBO's Silicon Valley cast talk women in techZachary Woods, Martin Starr, Thomas Middleditch and Amanda Crew talk about how 'Silicon Valley' does reflect the tech world's dude fest.
All right. We are here with Thomas Middleditch and Amanda Crew. Silicon Valley season three. I asked them to talk about their character but in a way of, how is Thomas's character in the show compared to him in real life from your perspective? That's fun. Well, there's similarities in that Thomas really is into A lot of cool things like GURPS. I head about this. Do either of you want to explain this again kind of a little bit? Sure. GURPS. GURPS stands for generic, universal, role playing system. I'm gonna give it right into this camera. Down the barrel. Steve Jacoby, native. You've heard of Dungeons and Dragons. Yes, kind of like that. You got your character sheets, you got a bunch of really close friends and you have a gamemaster. And it's one of the best experiences you could ever have. So, he's into some of those things. But he, unlike Richard, Thomas is super charismatic- Charismatic? He's, I'll just say, that was the biggest difference. He's much more charismatic. And [LAUGH] Do you want to add, more handsome in person? Yeah, well, that's the obvious one, but people get to see that, they've seen him in interviews, they see him right now and they've seen him in the show. But he's Yeah. He's not awkward at all. So do me. Yeah. Who is Amanda Crew. Well Amanda is a real tomboy. She's cussing and guffawing and If lying, that's a great descriptor for me. And jaw jabbering and all kinds of fun stuff. And she's one of the boys. She's really fun, but I feel like- She's a real hoot. Monica's a bit more [CROSSTALK] She's a bit more put together. She's a bit more put together. She wouldn't have her hair blowing like this and be fine with it. No. Now, I asked the other guys Last question before we wrap it up. I asked the other guys about how, season one you're the main female in the show. Season two, a few extras. We know Silicon Valley still has that large gap of men to women ratio. But that kinda gives you a lot more time to shine right? Yeah. We have women on the show who Blame it on Michelle. They shine too. See. Suzanne [UNKNOWN] We had Alice [UNKNOWN] on. And also you know, we didn't like a lot of that flack for the show in particular. Like, sure, I mean, call what social issues you need to in terms of real Silicon Valley. But like, for our show, I wanted to be like, were you not watching it? We have, she's a woman of power And integrity. And I'm working in tech. And something rare about my role on the show that, in most roles that I play I'm like the love interest. I just serve as the love interest. She's very sexy. And I don't do that on this show. I serve purpose as a business woman. Powerful. Strong. I think she's a great role model for women. Awesome. Thanks guys. Cool. Thank you. All right.
