As the newest version of Android, Lollipop introduces a brand new design, tweaks existing features, and a ton of extras. The new design, called material, is bright and colorful. There are new animations for when you unlock the device, and make selections on the screen. Material is everywhere in the operating system, from individual apps and menus. To the keyboard and the home screen. Notifications are redesigned in Lollipop with alerts showing up on the lock screen. There's also the new priority mode which let's you control what kinds of notifications appear. You can set it to only important calls, texts, and reminders get through to your device. Or turn off all notifications for a few hours for some peace and quiet. The old recent apps menu gets a refresh. It's now called overview. And it shows all of your most recently used apps on a menu that looks like a stack of cards. You can scroll through all of your open apps and see the last screen you were on in each of them.
