Gateway T-6330UThe Gateway T-6330U's attractive case design and lengthy battery life make it a good pick for budget-minded shoppers who want a more portable midsize laptop.
[ Music ] >>Hi I'm Michelle Thatcher, Senior Associate Editor for CNET.com and today we're looking at the Gateway T6330U. This is one of the low cost laptops that we're starting to see pop up in retail stores. It's actually priced at less than $700 and for that price it seems like a pretty good value. Now unlike a lot of the low cost laptops that we see, this one is actually a little bit smaller. It has a 14.1 inch display. Usually you'll see a 15 inch display but this one is 14 inches. What you'll get, in exchange for giving up that inch of screen space, is a lighter system. This laptop is only 5.5 pounds so it's a little bit easier to travel with. The nice thing about the Gateway's display is that it's quite beautiful. I think it renders colors beautifully. It does have a glossy finish that's gonna produce a little bit of reflections but as glossy screens go this is probably one of the least reflective. So your movies are gonna look great and colors are really gonna pop but then when it comes time to do a spreadsheet or just surf the web you're not gonna get too much reflection from the lights in the room. You'll notice the design is pretty basic. It's all silver on the outside and when you open it up it's got a black display vessel and it's silver on the inside as well and the silver extends to the keys which actually quite elegant looking. My only issue with the keyboard is about full size but the key travel is a little bit more shallow than I would prefer so definitely give the keyboard a try if you're thinking about buying this model. Above the keyboard there's a row of really handy media controls cut into some brushed aluminum. They're very classy looking and they're extremely handy. That way you can mute or un-mute the system or control the volume from right above the keyboard deck. Around the case you'll find a pretty stand selection of ports and connections for a budget laptop. But in a nice touch this one has connections for both high definition video and audio. The key to this systems budget price tag is actually inside of the case. It's built around a Pentium dual-core processor which, while it has 2 cores it's not going to be as fast as a core 2 duo. It's definitely adequate for basic computing but [Background music] it might bog down a bit with heavy multitasking loads. I'm Michelle Thatcher and this is the Gateway T6330U. [ Music ]
