Buzz Out Loud
Ep. 1560: iPhone 5 invite: we've cracked the code!Welcome to our first Buzz Out Loud Weekly, which is, ironically, our third show this week! It's a stair-step approach, really. We're recapping and analyzing Amazon's Kindle conflagration, wondering what the new iPhone 5 will look like and whether hidden...
Today -- Thursday September 20 ninth 2011 my name is Steven -- of I'm Brian's song and I'm Molly Wood and welcome -- buzz out loud we legal. The first episode. Of the new era now we know you guys have been really lucky this unique because we. Giving you three shows this week during our weekly transition and now next week ready to give you two shows because there's an Apple keynote. On Tuesday -- over the fourth. We will have live coverage here that'll work along side of our blog so for -- the of that. Need a little more of that buzz fix we will be here on Tuesday morning I believe they start at 10 as well I am Pacific time. Which is actually canonized compared to yesterday's Kindle announcement that. And I'm 7 AM I was at a time but that but that's kind of get -- -- -- so we you know we are doing the official once weekly show. Your Mother's Day is but we are also the that the goats you crew for live coverage of major tech events like that so. You'll get and then let us know actually so yesterday we put the Kindle. Show such as it was in the feed. Let us know if you want us to keep doing that you know we it's something where you -- it's wonderful -- -- -- -- -- live. We don't wanna give you like a recap of -- that you already know but if you want us to continue to post those special episodes and the -- feed to -- him. Hear our voices does that aria does that work for you send -- email by the unit that -- -- -- -- -- it will just take a vote on -- and -- but. Maybe you already heard it in my us or some other analysts about yesterday is Kindle. It did it and -- -- in -- yesterday. Iraq did they killed it with their announcements for their entire new Kindle line and of course the -- -- -- is -- Whipple points -- you heard most of this yesterday. They did announce the domain the flagship product was the -- fire by far there -- one -- nine LCD. Based tablet we'll talk a little bit about the more. But that was the star of the event and then also they. Introduced three new Kindle. 79 dollars -- to Obama called the -- touch and the -- touch three G. And 99 dollars and 149 that use -- but have touch screen interfaces and all three of the will be supported with their around. At their -- they're sponsored ads on the screens up so it. -- on the fire and you can't buy them without. There is a non subsidized price but to be honest the advertising is an hour and on the way -- -- on entries they have yet and that the prices are cheap and Saturn -- but it differently. But so -- now we're in the digestion stage tigers being force -- as I mean I gotta say. I get our opinion if you're actually yesterday -- killed. -- we were stoked about it build I mean everyone is still kind of buzz in a little bit from it then you it was an -- announcement just what they didn't finally. Bringing together all -- resources from a content standpoint and putting out a device at a price yet but everyone was. On fire about it was pretty. Good. -- I -- -- that in well and again we can't help this hack but there are a few questions or not it's not a total. Across the board love that it's more like it's extremely positive -- fast. But there are questions and actually David Carnoy. -- Dan Ackerman has a good post up on -- today ten things that we still don't know about the Kindle fire. One of that and so it it's just -- now. They're there are questions remaining light will be able to download and store media locally they really set it up that sort of -- streaming paying. I do I would think yes yeah I did read that it does have an eight gig. -- internal storage on the device in addition to the -- -- -- stream content so will be able to store stuff locally so yes we think. Will probably be able to -- -- that content for an airplane flight because it's a pretty small internal hard drive we don't know how much of will be user user accessible. And there's no as their personal I slot which that's kind of a bomber. We don't know whether -- Android apps in the Amazon -- -- will get fire optimize versions we also don't know Amazon was a little. Cagey on this question yesterday. They were asked directly by a couple different journalists can you download Hulu and Netflix and other an Android apps like that -- this device. Personally I'd be shocked if they allow that shot. You -- -- it makes no sense for them to treat this media content delivery system and network and then also and be like hey guys. -- use our other partners rain it it would be smart to bring some non but from a business standpoint. Why would they do that right right what what's in it for them -- -- I mean the -- Amazon has been very proprietary. But with everything you know up to this point and that's been one of the criticisms of the Kindle platform for sure that every time you buy a -- -- Mac and AM. -- -- Format you can't move it to anything else AZ had this you don't need it to the end it there -- that's so we that's so we type in jokingly call like Asian people like Leo. Only they're so easy end and a -- Apps like that -- in all race riots are really should've asked Amazon about or thanks so easy and I added another. And I'm sorry it does -- the first Alitalia accidentally He said -- -- are about that random random tangent. You also the Android tablet is according to people that date at the event. People were able to get a hands on they were held by representatives. But the Android tablet is running Android OS 2.3. Yeah not three point -- -- it's an older version and Amazon that highly customized. An Android have been mixing up Amazon Android in my mind -- Nonstop -- Android. And dramas is annoyed and was -- who look like and that apparently and then what are the other there are just a million questions about the -- browser. Can work with web based content will play nice with -- -- games what. How important is that and we actually an email later that -- -- touches on this point but business and tired just posted -- story that I found on Twitter. The talks about just why that's so important and and it explains why they spent so much time money. It everybody was you know -- all like hardware. The real out of it but they spend a long time talking about -- browser and it's. May -- sounds a little boring but I think that is -- super important underpinning because it really helps grow their commerce business makes web browsing may be way faster you know -- And when my biggest complaint about my iPad has -- of. That's -- thing about -- whole new so browser right so first of all if if any you guys are familiar. Opera mini had a similar feature in their browser com -- on mobile phones where the red -- or the loading -- -- of some pages were done offline and this would help you speed up your web browsing that's what the Amazon so browsers doing. But one of the things is will we even really see that benefits and still Wi-Fi only device you can see where that benefit is -- Over three G a lot more significantly than over Wi-Fi and then the other question about this is okay. Remember they're using their cloud storage to load and cash these web sites that are tracking. Your behavior and your web activity. Everything goes through their servers even you know secure web sites HT TPS web sites those still go to their servers so. There the good thing is they did mention there will be an option in their -- browser to turn off the offline or the hashing. -- Amazon's cloud storage servers the EC two storage. -- I don't like the idea. That they can track everything literally everything that we do -- browsing Syria. Because of that -- it in May it will it give you benefit of what the -- few milliseconds over Wi-Fi really. I am probably what's the speed benefit over Wi-Fi is it really worth it so that that's a one of those were all. Talking about the security now these days privacy issues it's it's everywhere and this is one thing where that -- -- -- -- -- like a lot of our data. They can definitely it and not only can they cycle lot of data but there US based company as so posted as noting today and -- that so any US court order. Would a lot would be able to let Amazon's intercept and record. Your otherwise secure communications to the big differences like you said. That because they're -- every -- -- are also -- has HT TPS connections and so it gets a little like its area mean the fact that they offer that off cloud kind of experience is good. But it would be great if they had some kind of a feature that said you know always opt out on Wi-Fi. Cash when I'm on three G because for three G data caps you -- kind of want that but -- -- be useful that it's not delivering -- -- -- then when you're on three G in any enemy it. But then this -- aren't aware of them -- devices and have three G you know that's for so the really the only are they are now well there's only don't there's -- -- -- -- But there's only tablets out there that the company is finally telling Lauren and Heidi I've got to back beta let anything bad but -- We are up at 5 AM to get it here yesterday people. Two a less in this room stayed up till 12 AM all the way through another not lot of I mean come -- does give us what I -- to get a slower because this pair their business phone you've instantly -- on. Ensemble today -- I'm just onion. -- I think you lease out seemingly I don't wanna hit on you but I got a decent and give you -- favorite for the sound -- -- Freeman an athlete He paying. Eight okay we're gonna stop like -- need to that He does does one it was made -- -- but yet to Wi-Fi only device at least you can turn it off in the browser but most consumers. Again this device the price of it. Is made for the more general mainstream consumer -- they're they've created there's a lot of articles Mulligan awesome -- about. Is this an iPad killer -- -- -- no. I'm not gonna save myself there is -- really and -- until we like to throw that around because it's and it's a funny term in gets people fired up. Obviously does click bait but -- I don't edit Latin. But that that -- monthly you can't bring it tablet into the world now without immediately setting up at the birth of her iPad and I know and everybody was doing this compares them after. That not surprisingly. On the -- I actually had to say I was surprised immediately. After the announcement and even during that. On Twitter there was already that I felt some there was defensiveness immediately from iPad Catholic -- -- iPad -- you know and it clicked. Where we don't really need you know. Protesting right away -- -- question like I thought you -- Apple might like technology. Right I wrote a tweet that's at Amazon just killed it. And then literally was -- like Amazon to an iPad what. I -- that look -- the numbers. Blah blah -- -- Amazon has created new market would every once you be worried about is every other Android tablet first -- -- know for sure that market they're -- they get -- -- -- need to figure things -- you know there's a report that. The Amazon fire. Is actually they're losing fifty dollars on each unit sold. But they're good they're gonna get that backed by people being involved in the Amazon. It's very parallel to the iPad where they have at least -- content ecosystem. Where people said for a device like that they're probably lose a little money but they're able to offer it at that price because they're making it up with the content delivery network. Yeah we -- is definitely a stark comparison to Apple which has like. Ridiculous hardware margin and is sitting on a time pilot as I mean it's a different approach you know and and we -- eat it it will be interesting to see how it does in the long run. What I argued so you know the loop and others -- inside -- conduct Jim Dalrymple is saying it's not an iPad killer -- Amazon is positioning it -- this way. Because they're very different devices what I argue is that Amazon has just mainstreamed. The tablet market in a way that Apple did not because of the price yes so it it's an iPad killer it's in the sense that they've opened up an entirely new market. And that a lot of people may discover that all they need. Is -- 200 dollar device that can view on the email on the casual games in the web surfing that you know its research tells us that the vast majority but people do on their tablet. And so people might look at the iPad and say. I mean always there was this question -- -- do you need an iPad right now though look at and almost 500 bucks. And -- and I can do all the same stuff on this little Kindle thingy. For 200 -- -- don't -- that and so when -- so it's more like them is digging the ground out from underneath the iPad you know. -- the you know the iPad and Apple they've always targeted at high end market -- they've never change that. Kind of identity of them with themselves and they said this is where we're -- play and now Amazon is really treating a second market more than anything you know. Will will see how all consumers -- -- how the market -- I could never call anything it. Any final nor any device and any killer -- Brand rain yeah well. Because this is all in -- has not gonna go away exactly buried in the ground no one's showing no one's showing nobody here all right ray but it will the question is. I'm very to see how consumers -- season. Will the fire really be the number two tablet not -- from a sales point we're not enough feature wise -- timeout as a head to head competitor because I I still feel they're not going -- Ted by. Sales lies what. And Apple announced it merely it's pretty -- holiday -- -- and the current. In other little Amazon tidbits Amazon announced that they had topped one million Kindle books and has four years until that many Kindle books though. They are obviously a pretty fired up about -- platform in general. -- It's it's more content to pop -- to their machine. But they're still not -- how many Kindle pixel that is like I hate giant mystery and I hate it and you know leaves you know they've sold a lot because you see more than enough in the wild right that's always a good indication. In when He has of these companies with other tablets like -- we've sold a million and I've only seen one of them ever used and I'm like the K I don't know about that but -- -- -- latitude models. Well He paid lol yeah more than ipads as way -- candles and -- pressure when an -- -- Just give us a number no commercial stock we'll call up an array -- -- if not we know it's not bad news. I've moving -- Amazon for a little I love now that that there's like Amazon fatigue we should talk Apple with a typical day guys get over it. I'm exhausted bows and on -- thank god we can finally talk about iPhone five again -- -- ash. An Apple has sent out the invites the invitations says let's talk iPhone look at to be about not very -- -- I appreciate that -- -- like music is in the air. Can you hear me now did you hear me now and don't -- any -- when they do -- -- -- micro and it actually at the. Nobody can stop though you can't help yourself from -- -- released the media cannot stop -- these right I was like. It says let's talk activated speech to text. I think it means it should now. An error is Israel let's talk iPhone that is set up a picture -- Really are they using a different -- content. Oh my gosh the clock is ten in him that's the time of the event -- them. Look there's a little map -- here with a candidate. Must. At infinite loop on my gosh it's gonna be on Apple's headquarters. I wish I making any candidate your weapons and it is a good solid two or three different article and remember -- different. About. -- And where some we're all sometimes guilty of that about how this totally mean there's gonna be speech detection results and return rate and other -- mapping which in. Assistant maps app now that's actually just the maps app on what they only -- it could use for icons to put us in -- -- and that's none of them. This. Anyways we talked about a month here on her opponent is -- I write this I'm gonna be out on -- only that your amazing. You are the code breaker thank you. Thank you -- also you know and some other news that has happened -- because yes we are just remind you weekly show. Not a five day -- -- not a three day Wii channel next it will be two yet but today we're still. So we will be here there'll be a live blog from CNET news.com and then we will be here doing a live coverage this one I think they're not. -- a midi instrument into -- stream so it'll be similar to the Kindle thing where the only video He can get. -- -- to be honest we did. We had a lot of content talked about and on and these days -- I was. I think I think will be just by now also a new reports going -- -- iMac the new iPhone four and iPod Touch skews. Have apparently allegedly appeared in Apple's own retail system. You know they have these phone model numbers that are used in their system on the back and from Apple and -- 81 a is the code for the iPod Touch so they've found three models the night with an 81 a in their system and that's that's an inventory thing that gets a real nice sort you know there and -- -- some of these numbers -- at a time but they've been a lot more sneaky also. IPhone four skews there's an and the nine -- which are represented a very minor change from the previous iPhone four which is the and the and the C that's interesting because of all the rumors but -- may Begin to be a cheaper phone yeah I like -- -- you a new version of the iPhone four that valid now would indicate would be six valid email if you believe the rumors and if you follow the model number. Trail then they could be possibly. That's why we're gonna get a parsing to some -- on an hourly. The -- include a steady but no numbers no mention nobody shot in an eight and nine boxing. Dollars and 95 that would beat the iPhone. So we're waited there are no excuse leaked for the Apple -- -- Apple better not send it to retail as is gonna get on the Internet real real real fast also and other rumors about that event -- funny thing is very interesting and Donald bell if you were -- today would I think. He wrote at things and He -- was likely. In the iPod plastic going to be -- -- At the cement or just in general. The iPod. Hoover. Think they're getting it connects and -- -- animal -- I just. There's still a spot there's still enough consumers are still wanting that the MP3 player that has. Chunks of their music even without the -- even without the clot I think -- at tonight's gonna get a -- -- here I think it's a little thunder here man. I'll just wait let me let me just -- -- -- the clouds a little bit. Where where with undergo some waiting for you to make -- prediction I'll. No -- on its predicts. There will still. An iPod classic. Yeah. I just that I think they can't they still can't -- I think they're still home for it. Analysts think that is the -- and you know I can be totally wrong and does give them around the benefit of funding to speculate about that is -- dive from five is that. At this point it out so we thought that -- -- although to recap what we think is gonna happen and thinner design aiming the camera. Percent world phone. -- tear drop shaped. Tear drop shaped. White bigger white and black wedding dream bigger screen and thinner better camera of the voice assistant and maybe the cheap servers. The it sounds so silly m.'s gonna throw this out here but I bet a lot delegate -- -- this is silly though you know -- -- my friend our activities like I can't. This disparate content so in this but for my -- like you know. I can't tell you it's on the iPhone five but there's this. Unbelievably. Got to have killer feature -- like. And -- -- what do only what is it what is as they can't say. If it is this assistant thing it better be like really amazing. Speech to text voice control voice assistant. If it is this it's. Like yeah yeah it's Italy and that is the you know it's so He told me this let's you and I'm like I'm -- gonna tells. No idea. House is awesome and the community. Glitch well hope -- did He -- I got rejected resilient as He does this give you pep talk before you call me you know it's like it -- -- like. But -- -- a killer feature. And a rudderless and beat me I'm not gonna run with that there's an amazing new feature coming up on by the guys and. Exactly I -- I've -- let's be honest there are blogs Apple it is up like that yet. -- -- I think a quick break letting -- come back. Microsoft's has lake disgorge the community garage and -- rolling it's unbelievable. Weirdly. In -- total turnaround everybody now hates spotted by. And solar storms that are possibly -- From about people going to be. -- Initiatives to those huge who. -- And. We made an extra. It's still got it -- Diego honorary attorney general of bus station and you're listening to community -- weekly. But -- out. One per customer percent certain port -- says -- And eighties. You know hold a little here -- like yourself assign title to your attorney general -- does. That it -- -- even talking an Allegheny. Unless the on the show my guys like -- lemon oh my god and none of these come in and fill. I predict that we there'll be no legal stories a let celebs at risk if -- -- everything old story that has come before and we're gonna grown and okay. Anyway we're we're planning a -- on on October -- That may sound today is stuff also super appropriate given Oliver whining about having to get -- really early yesterday it is -- just -- -- and thanks to the chat room for bird. Tipping me off those the world there are in the world and it took me up and -- It's national coffee day. Which I think it's my new favorite holiday that agents discovered in heard about ever it should be national -- -- every day NASA copy today and that apparently and -- in which He heating. -- and I'm gonna -- -- -- everybody can have -- holiday now on the Internet mr. But we'll have shown until they may want to go over to hit -- -- dot com with a number tunes because they have a list of an armed embarrassed by. -- -- -- -- I really wish I never had and again I'm not going to. Anyway -- this website. There may be -- -- Google it. There are a list of places that are giving -- copy freebies. In honor of national start starlets is done stuff like that you haven't they -- and copy and He may be. They're not none of them appear to be doing it today 7-Eleven. Barnes & -- -- a copy to -- you guys let's be honest seven -- coffee should be free Krispy Kreme. At the end. That there's copy and Thornton. And then there may be others. -- -- And national -- how to these everywhere in England. You you don't agent and are confident -- you didn't -- okay we'll start its Samsung. Has. -- -- -- Waved the white flag and they finally knuckled under they signed an unbelievable Microsoft patent licensing deal that will give Microsoft. -- -- a cut of every. Android phone that Samsung sells. Now remember. -- CC signed a deal earlier with them actually ECC was one of the first hardware manufactures. Samsung is now on board ATC at the moment gives. Microsoft somewhere around like ten dollars per handset -- per Android device. That is sold directly to Microsoft Microsoft used a variety of you know patents and they -- a lot of interface patents. With the Android system. To get other manufactures on -- so now Microsoft is literally -- mean. Off of the top two Android handset makers for every -- may make. And -- and a revenue stream. On and other photo less while they themselves. Also have their own -- less folk. But let them. Following. Audi -- Alex Oliver -- on Friday at manoa where I was new number -- -- a month and word. This is this is -- -- think about it Microsoft is going to make money from almost every Android device that is shipped. And there's a broad support there's a -- of other hardware manufactures we have Acer you might recognize -- name general dynamics. I -- -- -- killed velocity micro view sonic. And -- from there are all targeted by Microsoft. And they have signed deals with Microsoft and now I even pulled -- just it just to give a reference of some of these. You know patents that -- -- you know throwing at these Android manufactures. For example common name space for a long and short file names. Method and system for managing changes to a contact database flexible architecture for notifying applications of state changes there's about eight of these that they were supposedly targeting Android devices for infringing. But other companies other than Motorola Motorola has still not jumped on board with this right. But it's in a bad sign and -- -- -- and it's a -- time when Samsung says okay finally gonna get it. -- and if Microsoft ends up winning against in -- against Motorola in court possibly even. Google. Would have to pay licensing royalty I mean you gotta admit. Like this is the part where it's hard ever count Microsoft out right because they're so there in deep in so many ways I -- at this point. Microsoft is arguably almost certainly -- -- think making more money off of Android of -- -- There -- a there's a thing that they so they really are a really that it currently already are it's really with their deals I mean it really it's it's evil as hell right. But the fact is. Our patent system has allowed them to -- these patents and use them in court and an -- licensing and date no matter who wins. Even if Microsoft fails to win that the mobile space with Windows Phone. They still win because they're collecting money on every Android device that's. And even though Google -- in -- -- -- Microsoft's incorporate Motorola. They're going to be -- Motorola Google is in the process of acquiring Motorola mobility. So they're gonna go head to head with Google the big company and added there are going to cut the heads an enemy in -- -- -- and you can really see like Google's so frustrated about. About the patent issue at this point because not only does Microsoft -- all of these -- Oracle. They've been in a big legal spat with Oracle Oracle may turn out to have huge set of patent that somehow. Touch Android. And that that Android may be told. So to such an extent that it might just become unfeasible for manufacturers exempt -- NH CC may eventually to -- you know what. This is too much work it's not Google can't protect us there are too many patents out there -- in -- commander and it costs -- too much to make Android phone. -- -- Salie -- pre show me about. About Microsoft. And then have you know. About Microsoft having a phone OS like how can you make money that I do you -- I mean it almost feels like. I was still accurate map that click that should even be legal. Like that you can make all of this -- something many -- -- one phone operating system but meanwhile have -- and it does feel like somehow -- got it all locked up in now. Now it's it's -- what is. Calling it extortion. There outright calling it instead of extortion in a blog -- -- the amber remarkable legal currently comes to prize -- -- and they're going dabbled with it. But they must be they're pretty mad they're pretty -- -- -- have a blast put out a statement that says quote. This is the same tactic wasting time and again from Microsoft failing to succeed in the Smartphone market. They are resorting to legal measures to extort profit from others achievement and hinder the pace of innovation we remain focused on building new technology and supporting. Android partners -- Gill says it's the power of the patent and then. We know Microsoft's claim would be like we -- to collect what's rightfully ours. -- Google saying you're -- us -- -- like but this is ours in the first place and Microsoft's justification be like look. It showing that licensing does work and you do you have to pay. For patents because they've been successful to display with eight manufactures the two top -- who make up more than half of all US Smartphone sales. I mean that his. And the thing is it's. It's true -- in May feel kind of ugly but Google. At some there's some points -- at -- Google's almost like deny -- New kit in the room right they just -- is barely here. And they think we're just gonna do whatever the hell we want right -- Google and -- geniuses and we're gonna do whatever we want and Microsoft is like the wise old. You know corrupt. It's a cynical teacher but -- -- back it is like LN -- bring it on like it's not my fault. If I'm Microsoft is not my fault that Google didn't think about patents before they got into this business and not -- iPod they didn't amass their own. Patent portfolio before they got into this business and it's not our fault that that we are using the system as the system is designed to be used you know. I mean like they're not they're not stupid. We are probably well and and it's easy for us has sometimes been like out on top they now -- and -- -- -- in -- so much money for salon. If -- if you put us in their position. And we were the owner let's say we had. A competing company are friend who took one of our ideas that was clearly pad and was making money of it we would say that is -- -- -- if you attach it yourself and personalize it you would do exactly what Microsoft is doing yet. And they're just doing what they're supposed. -- like we haven't really when you want from us. Moving on spot by users have been freaking out all week -- sort of like the part where we play catch up from the earlier part of the week. Spotted by users have been furious upon discovering that if you want to sign up for the service now -- -- -- opened up. To everyone right after the -- but the announcement. You have to have a FaceBook account now to register for spot. I'm sure -- every was really excited about that also. I was not excited how spot I was offering what they awfully like for the first six months -- few months the mobile version of their spot -- -- service for free for new members also. But anyways yet who wants to link their FaceBook account directly to spot five even when I logged into my own personal -- that was already there. He was prompting me to do in -- Mike -- click out how to make without an and I don't think canceled and says. Okay now you'll still be is -- -- -- -- even throw that -- me when I never had to log in with FaceBook in the. First place act lately even existing users yes I had that same thing and I almost treated like I have to do is vigilant in addition that I like and -- the way -- -- the same -- and -- left unchecked the box and then hit cancel like twice and then it went away. And as we come back exactly and it better not. And because -- At the same time that all that happened to be able like some music and I don't wanna hepatitis and I wanna add to your FaceBook account just to start out and I for one thing that's insane. And it feels like -- -- -- cutting itself off from potentially billions of customers just to get millions who use FaceBook you know it doesn't seem that smart. And then on top of that that's exactly the moment that everyone started noticing that stupid little plug in ticker what are people -- life Leo and a -- that -- that just shows every single sign that runs into want to announce on the and that's what it was still and that's what it was doing once they announce the media content relationships are using the open graph API. It was three did it. All spotted by an Ide and I'm -- the most part meals -- -- -- that's just the beginning. Eventually it's gonna be every free music and watching the region's other watching her but -- read everything web Barney look at every needed a -- -- So there was enough flash though and so I wonder like that was just the beginning big cattle under the -- gonna look like because spotted by then. Has added a new a new mode. Tears behind you all of this criticism since modifies added the president listening mode to tell her complaints about -- -- -- in the attic. Sharing in a playlist on bass would so enjoy it how you -- with -- -- by. And enjoy your eighties ballads without judgment to enjoy enjoy new now finally have private listening. With the audience. -- -- -- -- I love this that songs I love. That this is this is the path -- this is -- take it right every single app developer who's all fired up about open graph take note. Take note of the fact that once users started to realize that they were gonna meet forced into this. And that all of that has -- the ticker is like the biggest privacy invasion -- ever seen in my life it isn't just annoying it's. It's so annoying and then it includes -- so much information about people that you don't. Know an aren't friends with because of all the commenting in the likes -- it does take your time I even semi private conversation out into the it's just. Awful if there's a reason not to use basement Moritz that stupid ticker yet but also what's kind of disturbing about this is that. And like you said companies should take note. Would -- -- -- -- -- they because they wanted to take demand is their priority clearly was being involved with the open graph API. They were seen if you wanna sign -- this you have to have a FaceBook account at. And then we will get those different data point so we collect because of the open -- API we can post them. Because we can set one to post some wherever. But you have to use FaceBook to use our service -- and that. Please and other companies don't do this because now there is already us a backlash growing at least in the tech world. And the you know it's -- there's gonna be Cingular is gonna give up their FaceBook credentials because they wanna be part of the service but trust us this is not what you wanted to rank. For -- movie for future with other services you don't give them all. And -- can't necessarily be -- we saw this week that they admitted. To what they call a bug. That was allowing FaceBook cookies to continue to track you across the web even after you had logged off -- talked about that story last week. -- like if you really wanna be not -- use a different. I don't believe for a second about the bug I mean I think that's of those cookies were designed to knew all along but it sort of just like. Any company is thinking about tying up -- FaceBook should consider the real possibility of user backlash and good for spot -- for adding. I'm listening but what they might wanna do is just not be so deeply in bad -- the problem for yeah I'd but I don't like the fact that it's okay it will. Now the games -- but credentials will make you feel letter by adding a privacy filter for it right because then you're still opt in with FaceBook and open graph and using their platform on mobile devices and commend them it's kinda dirty amendment to take a look at Narnia just -- It's canister and you're in good things about them and -- also it's like for the -- just posted just give us a link to all FaceBook dot com. About a Chrome extension that removes the tests Chrome and Firefox I believe and other high value add expansion -- for that so we'll we'll post that the senate may do little video on that later. Okay also -- things we hate about FaceBook we still don't have a forget iPad -- the one thing that we actually didn't -- out -- that unbearably long keynote was an iPad out. -- is still. Stuck in some kind of -- negotiate. And this is not been held back by Apple specifically. Jeff draconian he's one of the developers of the -- -- iPad app. He says and He put this up and his personal blog He left FaceBook and quit. Because the app has remained in limbo for so long. He wrote in his blog that Apple is ready to go since may. But an internal delay -- actually launching the app. Prompted him to quit and over this time they've continued to how to -- ready to roll. But not released. I do not understand that for five months I mean New York Times as saying that it's sort of an Apple discussion -- this guy's saying I know it's not. Added -- it isn't just about this I mean apparently they have had a strained relationship Apple and FaceBook but He is saying. But really you don't have to have a great relationship about Apple want to -- -- out no He built in now. -- it's baffling to me that they wouldn't just do it. An apparently it is baffling -- that at least one developer left it I still maintain that is the opening a mobile. They just don't. I shall we I think maybe we're gonna have to -- onto the links -- terrorist Oscars go let's do it. That doesn't happen slowly creation -- As -- against Ericsson just hit abundance. -- -- -- -- Kids today Windows Phone 7 point five mango has finally been released an -- age of fairly slow roll out its that it's coming over the next couple weeks and -- I've seen them. How to use online like had forced -- and upgrades if you've been waiting for that. Go get it. And like take particulate data now before the iPhone -- comes to the prequel. Messaging email improvements via. Social network improvements to their contacts 50500. Changes plus the -- -- like the tiles. I wonder I loading interface rate yet it is new and fresh and it's -- like that -- okay. Also. The US Sereno my articles on opening -- -- -- -- totally the US is apparently asked. The Department of Justice -- asked Google for more information about the planned at Motorola mobility purchased. Google put up a a blog post saying. Information. Means we won't be closing the deal right away but we're confident that the that's the rapidly growing mobile ecosystem will remain highly competitive after this deal. No surprise here we got that there -- -- -- some antitrust scrutiny. When they announced that that merger. Also default on the whole Amazon California. Affiliates situation now the last recent update to it. Was an Amazon had negotiated with California legislature and government. That they would be sales they would them be able to collect sales tax with Amazon Leigh turner and so now because some time in a September of 2012. So now because of this. Affiliates are asking will can we get back in on the program. And sell products through Amazon and Amazon is now starting to reach out to their associate accounts to re re launched that program for the time being. There we -- I let's move straight on than we have planning time for your feedback let's move directly down to our science news. If you guys -- for some reason the northern lights in a totally unexpected area last night please send us pictures and video because apparently. That one of the -- there was a huge solar eruption over the weekend and a geo magnetic storms were just reaching earth. This over the last couple days and they were saying that you might have seen the northern lights in like Arizona you know really really -- -- -- hanging. And then it's it's basically solar storms -- and so like there's this. Every thirteen years or something -- greater solar storms now they say that because we're entering this this exterior solar storm season. That radiation hazards are likely to increase for air travelers and for astronauts in the coming years. Because of -- increased solar activity so you always are when you fly I've just learned is an element and learning right now they're -- that when you fly you are exposed to small amounts of radiation. To actually -- and didn't. And all I knew I knew that and but now the regionals and hired out of an excellent players even higher because -- -- -- keep that away for me Steven. Keep that away don't vote don't put it downloaded and -- old. After all it's reassuring to know the buy them -- is going to carry on being produced daily after all even better that the podcast has grown to be an hour and a quarter loss. But I also listen to the Monday for a -- podcaster was pleased that it now has more tech news content and there was no adult humor well done. And it'll not only -- online retail platform you buy your goods on but also the hardware browser you buy it with. A browser that depends on Amazon servers to do the heavy lifting. Unlike -- FaceBook Amazon will control all of it. It's. Gains her true that. Writes in and says in the bonus episode 1559 -- color Collins saying that the discovery of faster than light neutrinos would allow for warp drive. But I have to respectfully disagree. Everything worked drug works is that if you have a massive power source in the ability to manipulate gravity you could workstations. Are two ways to compressed is based in -- to view and experience -- and -- By doing this you spaceship would have a relatively slow forward velocity and not violate Einstein's -- about traveling beyond the speed of light while still covering great distances. And just importantly not be subject to the time died leaking effects of traveling near the speed -- you know where the traveler only -- a few weeks or months but returns it to find it two years have passed. In effect warp drive works by cheating on the spaceship and to -- you'd feel they can barely moving it's just that the objects in -- become closer than they want the. And many says PS I'm not a physicist but I did read the physics of Star Trek from the about it.
