Tesla may face DOJ investigation over Elon Musk funding tweet
Elon Musk's impulsive tweets may have landed him in hot water with the U.S. Justice Department.
In early August, Musk tweeted he was, quote, considering taking TESLA private at 420, unquote.
Meaning 420 bucks a share.
He also mentioned funding to do so was secured.
After a couple of weeks of uncertainty and reports the US securities and exchange commission had subpoena Musk about the tweet.
And whether or not it mislead investors intentionally.
Elon posted to Tesla's blog announcing the company would stay public.
But that's not the only department looking into the tweet heard around the world.
Bloomberg reported the Justice Department was in preliminary stages of a criminal probe surrounding the tweets.
In an email statement, Tesla confirmed the DOJ requested documents from the company But that there had not been any other formal actions taken thus far.
Musk is also facing legal action after a British cave diver sued him for defamation after a separate Musk tweet called him a quote, pedo guy, unquote, and he subsequently doubled-down again via tweet, questioning why the diver hadn't already sued him for the claim.
As always, we'll be attempting to keep up with Elon Musk fast paced Twitter feed here at CNET, I'm Ashley [UNKNOWN], be good humans.
