Dell Latitude D630The Dell Latitude D630 can't go wrong with corporate users, because it integrates Intel's latest mobile platform with a business-friendly feature set and lengthy extended battery.
[ Music ] ^M00:00:10 >> I'm Dan Ackerman, senior editor at CNET.com and this is the Dell Latitude D630; now you might be thinking this looks a heck of a lot like the latitude D620 and you would be right, most of the changes in this model are under the hood. The most important one of course is this guy has been upgraded with Intel's new Centrino[SP?] Duo platform, otherwise known as Santa Rosa if you've been following that, that means you get more powerful CPU, probably some better battery life and of course all the other Santa Rosa goodies like support for 8022.11NWIFI and a new graphics chipset. Tell you might look at screen and say hey that's Windows XP, what happened to Windows this stuff? I thought everybody had to have Windows Vista now, well this is actually from Dells business line and they are more than happy to give you XP, you can actually get XP in some of the consumer systems now to. Now being more of a suit and business time business laptop, you're not going to find a lot of the multimedia extras on here like a web cam or media control buttons, what you do get, there's a fingerprint reader and a smartcard slot for corporate security. Now this guy is a 14 inch laptop, it's a little bit smaller than the standard 15 inch mainstream laptops, but I think you're going to see more and more people switching to this smaller, more compact 14 inch size. Our only complaint is that for a 14 inch laptop, it is a little bit heavy, tough to carry around with you, that could be because of this battery, this gigantic nine cell thing sticking out on the front here. It's actually great for battery life Ian you can use this thing for hours and hours, which is especially important if you're taking this on the road, this is a good laptop for that because it's what Dell calls Road ready and it's actually very solidly built, you can bang around on it. I wouldn't exactly go tossing it off the table or pouring a glass of water on it but it's one of the more solid laptops that we have seen lately. I'm Dan Ackerman and that's the Dell Latitude D630. ^M00:01:58 [ Music ]
