CNET First Look
BenQ V2420HThe BenQ V2420H is an adequately performing monitor, but it isn't worth its high price when compared with the similarly priced, but superior performing competition.
[Music] >> Hey guys, this is Eric Franklin with CNET.com and today we're taking a first look at the BenQ V2420H. The monitor has a typical looking circular foot stand that is honestly, quite narrow. I'm not really sure why they chose such a small stand. I mean, one slight knock and it's over. The panel tilts back 10 degrees, but doesn't have swivel, height or pivot adjustments. Connection options include VGA, HDMI and DVI inputs in addition to a headphone jack. Under the lower right side of the bezel are five buttons that make up the on screen display button array where up to nine different display presets can be chosen. At first, navigating the OSD was a bit of challenge and it took us a few minutes to become accustomed to using the right and left buttons to navigate up and down. But I soon got used to it. In movies, its colors look mostly accurate, but we did notice a slight green tint on the video. While its movie preset is the best for watching movies, picture detail isn't quite as sharp as on the Samsung PX2370. Overall the BenQ's movie play back performance is good but its color and accuracy and lack of sharpness keep it from being great. In games, we found that the monitor's game mode preset grossly over saturates colors, giving the game a particularly garish presentation, however, its SRGB mode is the most appropriate preset for games. While color in SRGB mode isn't as vibrant as it is in the game mode presentation, it probably won't temporarily blind you either. At $300, it's difficult to justify buying the V2420H. Although it performs well overall, you can get a superior monitor, such as the PX2370 for only $10 more. For general use, the BenQ is a fine monitor, however thanks to its better performance, the PX2370 is worth spending the extra $10 for. Once again, this has been the first look at the BenQ V2420H.
